Well here's my 1st DDR3 BL. I probably won't do another either as auto's are frowned upon in many places and I want my knives to be carried and used by the friends I give them to. Doesn't look like a DDR3 BL very much anymore. I did some major changes. One of the hidden things is a single thinned phospher bronze washer tucked into the pivot area, for better and smoother action.
As usual, I left the filed back spacer a millimeter above the handles so you could "feel" it. In this case I had to really buff it down to a embossed look, as the pattern I did was a "buzzsaw" to the palm before I smoothed it. I like the smoothed look though most people like sharp filing. Of course, they don't realize that the sharp filing "destroys" pockets and collects all sorts of hand cheese. I let the cookie monster take a bit out of the blade for an unusual look. I don't expect this knife to get hard usage anyway.
I could have done better, but I made it for a friend who is back on 2 weeks leave from Iraq and I want him to be able to take it back with him, so I only had a few days to do the work.
The pictures vary somewhat in color because I was trying different lighting. I'm still learning! Noticed some water stains too. Should have cleaned better. Bolsters are mirror polished, but slooks scratched up in the photos.
Hope you like it.
