I've been carrying a CRKT M16 for a few years and like it, but I have never been in love with the liner lock. Although I've had no problems with it, I'd like a better locking system. Other than that (and that I've heard it's made in Taiwan I recently bought one of the less expensive cold steel knives as a knock around/hunting knife and like the looks of the lock on that, but hear they are also foreign made-not that I'd rule that out, but I'd rather buy an american made knife. I'm not really looking to spend $ 200 on a knife either, since although I rarely lose them, I do tend to misplace them for months or years at a time (I recently refound my Gerber pocket knife I bought in 1986, one of the first flippy out blade knives I remember seeing). |

I know it is a liner lock, but you should seriously check out the Al Mar S.E.R.E. 2000 folder. It is a tank and I usually recommend it first to someone looking for a good folder. You can get them at www.knifesite.com for around $114 which is a great deal. The clip is reversible and sits very deep in the pocket. It is VG-10 steel, which is one of my favorite stainless steels for all around edgeholding and durabillity, and the liner lock is probably one of, if not the, strongest of its kind. It has a glass smooth action and the fit and finish of the knife approaches the level of some customs that I have used. It is definitely alot of knife for the money. If you are still dead set on not having a liner lock after looking at the Al Mar, check out the Benchmade 710 axis lock. It is a very nice blade and also a very tough folder. Also, the Spyderco Chinook is one beefy Mofo, and it uses a massive framelock, very tough. Good luck! |
| Easy, Benchmade Griptilian. You can pick one up on Ebay for about $60. 440C's a good steel, AXIS lock is great, and more configurations than any other knife I can think of (3 blade shapes, 2 sizes, BT2 option, combo-edge option, and something like 6 handle colors in the smaller size) it's hard to beat. |
Glad you like it. I have both a Flash and a Flash II and really like them. However, my Microtech is arriving today, so the SOGs will probably be getting a little less pocket time in the future. |
