| What blade rating should I look for in a knife? I will probably buy one from CRKT cause the one I carry now is wearing out. Its one of the ones from the 14K series. The blade rating on it is 6611. How dose the rating go? The higher the number the better? or the lower numbeer the better? Thanks |

6611N: Mt. Shasta Combined Razor-Sharp and Triple-Pointâ„¢ Serrated Cutting Edge MSRP $39.99 Buy from A.G. Russell | Buy from Shoptimax I'm guessing the 6611 refers to that particular model. The steel is AUS6M for the blades in that series. www.crkt.com/steelfct.html There's a link to their page on the steels they use. |

Blade rating? That's a new one on me. Blade steels are rated by Rockwell hardness, eg... 57-60 RC... the higher the number, the harder the steel... 60 is considered very hard on the Rockwell scale... and by blade steel type, eg. ATS-34, 154CM, AUS 6, AUS 8, AUS 118, 440C, etc. The number "6611" doesn't really tell me anything unless it's a model number as PE suggested. |

Also, things like hardness or even what the blade is made of don't mean very much unless they are qualified and related to other factors. Hard blades may hold an edge better than softer ones but may also be more brittle and harder to resharpen. Unfortunately, there is no magic or correct answer when it comes to knives anymore than with guns or ammo. The best suggestion is , just like with guns or ammo, to find those that feel and work best for you. |
