| Did you get your Hesse .50BMG yet? If so please give update. |
| still waiting, seems that a company called vulcan purchased hesse arms. the hesse dude (it was like a one man operation anyhow just about) is staying on as the boss. this caused a temporary slowdown at joeken, they figure that custom rifles will be delayed but standards can be put out in a week still for $1199. even though they sell them standard like hotcakes, he says anyone that is even remotely considering some of the custom options could never be satisfied with the as delivered $1199 hesse rifle. trust me, the moment I get it I will post, and the moment I shoot it? well you probably wondt be able to get me to stop posting. I am currently trying to work out a deal for a light aircraft barrel (new) for cheap. if this happens my wife will probably be less than happy when I tell her Im goanna build one too he-he. |
| What custom work is being done on your Hesse? I am glad I got the standard one. The stock could use some work but for what I do with it, I decided to leave it alone. As far as the receiver and barrel goes, they look good as is. I am now looking at adding an AR15 upper .50BMG to my arsenal. LOL :-) |
| FINALLY! I called them and they had already sent it out and gave me a fed ex track #. heres the crappy thing, I checked with the gun shop recieving it for me. since I paid the transfer back in sept they may have lost my form and they are acting like I am making it up and that I need to pay a transfer fee again. we'll see on the day it gets here (fed ex tracking shows it as the 6th of feb). Atleast, I have records myself to prove it just pisses me off that I might have to take a day off to go through 6 months of financial records for like just a few bucks. I have also been thinking of paying to have the whole thing cryoed but I dont know if I want to part with it again right away. I just cant wait to see what $600-700 in extra's looks like ontop of a $1199 rifle. |
| ITS HERE! ITS HERE! This thing is huge! It weighs 38 #'s it feels as heavy and is as large (58") as the M82A1 I held years ago. the stock looks great. Joeken.com did an awsome job on the parkerizing and all!. I chaimbered all the IK Yugo ball I have nad all the different kinds of ammo I got from Watsons Weapons . com |

What's the deal with the Hesse rifle? I got on the biggerhammer site and all I can find is negative comments about them. Redhawk is the only one who has one, the rest seem to be basing their bad opinion of the Hesse .50 on AR15 receivers??? A friend and I are ready to jump into the .50 cal world, and the Hesse looks like a nice way to start, but I sure don't want to get stuck with a $1200 gun that won't shoot and I can't sell. |
| I wouldnt say that you would be "stuck" with it. The only legitimate problem I have ever seen on Hesse rifles is the stocks. They look a little rough. I would get the Joeken with the upgraded stock even if it was the only option you get. Not everyone has ever heard of Hesse and the problems with the AR lowers. I never did. Not everyone's life revolves around the opinions of this board. When we took my rifle out of the Carry bag at the gun shop a guy standing there offered me $3000 to take it home. I have no doubt that you could sell a rough looking $1199 rifle at the gun show for $2000+. By the way I even have a Hesse lower for an AR I built from a bare lower reciever and converted all the parts I took off of my Bushmaster to post ban when I made it a preban shorty. the only prob I ever saw was a interference of the bolt catch roll pin hole was a little tight. I have had a chance to rebuild colt M16 rifles in the Air Force and saw some similar problems in that case. I have also seen colt recievers with the front end broken off at the pin retention area (front top of mag well) from guys diving to the ground in training or tactical situations. does this mean colt is crap? I have also seen them fall out of a hummer screaming across the desert at 60 (top speed) with no ill effects. You know the new M16/AR15 rifles the military is getting now are made in Malasia? what kind of quality will those have? Get your Hesse. You are buying the rifle for you right? The idea that the rifle could blow up is merely crazy. It is all beef (maybe too much beef)The barrel and chamber area are as big as that on an M2HB machinegun. the barrel does separate like any other bolt gun(under gunsmith's conditions) and could be replaced if you ever wanted to. I intend to fire mine at the FCSA regionals at Alliance NE this year. I cant wait for my rings to start practicing. Im lucky to live in Wyoming, I am only half a days drive from a few FCSA events. I have a nice range to practice at. Having a range is so important that some 50 shooters have been moving to AZ just to enjoy the hobby. I think AZ is to 50 shooting, what Hollywood is to movie making. |
| If I would have listened to the guys on biggerhammer, I would not have got my Hesse. BUT I did not listen to them and I am glad I got it. It is a blast to shoot and my son shoots it. If I thought something was going to happen to it, I would not let my son shoot it. If you look at the Rebel 50 the receivers look almost the same. The Hesse 50BMG is a totally different animal than there AR15 lowers. I trust it. |

Tom & Redhawk ... I've been scouring the net and reading everything I can find about inexpensive .50's. I've seen a hell of a lot of bad press on Hesse, but all related to AR15 or Galil receivers. When you are talking about the difference of $100-200 between a Bushmaster and a cheapo Ar15, I'd go with the Bushmaster every time. But for a .50 we are talking about $1000 or more difference. Redhawk didn't you also just buy a Ferret? I'm lucky to be in Utah, it's a short drive from here out to the Salt Flats where you have a virtually unlimited range to shoot on. I recently moved here from Kansas, and there was only one 1000 yard range in the state. The whole state is privately owned, so it's hard to find a place to shoot besides on a range. Here in Utah that isn't the case. I don't have an AR right now, so if I bought a Ferret or other "upper" type .50 I'd also have to buy a lower receiver. The $1200 Hesse looks real good when you consider that. And I can do stockwork, bedding, etc. myself. Thanks for the info ... |

So what you are saying is that Colt and FN both have factories in Malasia and are willfully violating the provisions of their Govt. Contract by producing M16's there and shipping them to the US? Considering the seriousness of your allegations, care to provide at least some kind of proof? |

The Joeken as delivered cheap stock is merely in need of some sanding and resin finish yourself could be done in one day. Once I get a chance to look at one, I may go ahead and order a Hesse with the intention of some stock work, trigger tuning, etc. before I ever fire it. For the price I don't think I can go wrong, like you said it would be no trick to get my money back out of it at a gun show. |

| Ok, ok I am a man of honor and can admit when I am wrong. I apologise XM777. I have a tendancy to take the word of the guys from my team and who's hands my life was in sometimes for gospel. It was a miscommunication. They tell me now that what the deal is that they got all new M4's and that the old rifles were crated up in the crates and sent to Malaysia as part of some package from Washington. CAR's, M203's, and I think maybe even some M60's but Im not sure of that. My buds all have M4's and SAW's now. |

B4Ctom1: I'm very happy with my Leupold varix III 6.5-20x50 LRT scope. I recently sent it into Premier Reticles to have the target turrets swapped for the Mark 4 style knobs and now I really, REALLY like it! I also had them add luminous posts to the already factory installed mil-dots. The posts will now glow at night if you shine a light on them for a few seconds. The dots don't glow, just the outer posts. Premier also marked my power adjustment ring for the exact power (10x) that the mil-dots subtend to. This is very helpful as it'll improve my range estimation by leaps and bounds! A buddy of mine as the Nightforce and he swears by it. The reticle he has is more of the "ladder" style, but everything changes on it (all the distances) if you mess with the power setting. That's the part I don't like. I'll stick with my mil-dots. :) |

The main difference between the standard target turrets and the Mark 4 turrets are that the M4's are bigger in diameter, have better "grips" on the top of the knob and are much easier to read. When I had the standard target turrets, I kept losing my zero point. It made going from 200 then to 800 then to 1400 and back to 500 (yards) almost impossible because the hash marks were so hard to distinguish. The Mark 4 turrets completely solved that problem for me. I have seen the stoney point knobs advertised in The Blue Press, but have never seen or tried them personally. I've heard both good and bad about SWFA. Never ordered from them personally though. My Leupold's have been purchased either used or from a major retailer like Galyans or directly from Premier Reticles. If you watch the auction sites, you can sometimes find a good deal, but for my time and money I'd probably just get them from Premier now on. (They have a price sheet on their website and the turn-around time is very fast when you're having them do a conversion.) |
Yes, you should easily be able to locate his email addy on the EE forum. He has lots of good feedback. He also has a website, the name of which is escaping me. Donnie at www.sableco.net also has good Leupold pricing. |
