50 Cal Blows Up and Injures Shooter

I believe this occurred at the Hot Wells range in Houston. My fiancee's father believes he was present when it happened.

The rifle involved was supposedly a Blackthorne/Hesse/Vulcan.

That video is about worthless lol. I wouldn't shoot a Hesse .22, let alone a Hesse .50

Either the bolt lugs sheared off and sent the bolt into the shooter, or maybe an internal bolt failure sent the firing pin assembly into him instead of the entire bolt.

There was a member here that was either shooting on the range or was range safety when this happened.

Can't remember who though.  Comes up every year or so.

Those old benches are long gone.  Flooding finally did them in.  Concrete benches now.

We, as FCSA Match Directors, have banned the Vulcan and its derivative from any FCSA Sanctioned Matches.

We also recommend they be rendered inoperative for any future use.

Some have recommended they be used for making a lamp body.

Can't blame them for wanting to be able to talk to the guy to help and call 911, etc.

do not want a BCG lodged in my shoulder

I purchased one of the Vulcan / Hesse / Blackthorne 50 BMG Rifles.

The this was a POS.

I was lucky that the firing pin did not spear me thru my face.

When firing the rifle the firing pin would pierce the primer and be propelled backwards thru the rear of the bolt.

I would never buy anything ever again from that company

I haven't see a  Vulcan / Hesse / Blackthorne thread in a while.  Are they still around, or have they changed there name again. Hopefully they finally out of business. I need to keep the hell away from anything they make.

I wonder if they allow pick ups at their location?

There are two different types of Vulcan .50's(at least).
The interrupted thread and conventional three lug bolt.
The interrupted thread is horrible in design and implementation.
The other bolt could have been good except for the manufacturing aspect.

The sear surfaces are so soft and sloppy that the sear can let go before the bolt is locked in battery, with obvious consequences.
Couple that with the ability to fire without the bolt handle being locked down creates a bomb.

I'm aware of several injuries caused by these rifles.

So why wasn't Vulcan/Blackthorne/Hesse sued out of existence by injured parties? Did they settle out-of-court or something?

Interesting.  Thanks.

I did not notice the 50 on their site anymore (which is a good thing).  They seem to be blowing out the stocks as bargain prices.
