I've owned two 50's, a Barrett and a LAR. Why I have the urge to do this again is beyond me. Maybe I'm just getting to be nuts in my old age.
Anyway the one I'm looking at this time is the Bushmaster. Anyone have experience with one of these? If so, what scope would you recommend? I'm just going to be using it for plinking at relatively short ranges. |
| I have a BA50 and love it. Don't get to shoot it much with the price of ammo for it but I mainly bought it as an investment. The recoil on it is actually very controllable I have a leupold scope on it with Barrett rings. I'll have to dig in out of the safe to see what model scope it is can't think of it off the top of my head. |
| I have one also, the long version. Accuracy is not bad though I haven't shot any match ammo through it. I bought a press but haven't loaded any match bullets for it yet. . I have some British linked machine gun ammo that shoots 2" range and seems better than the new federal fmj loads. I have a steiner 4x16 scope on it now. All in all it seems good but this is the only one I've ever had. I'm planning on shooting it some over the holidays , haven't her her roar for a while! |

I have the long version as well. I have had it out quite a few times, and personally find a lot to like about it, and only 1 really nagging issue.
Good: -Seems to be built very solid. -Recoil is not bad at all. I could shoot it for hours...or all day, and not have a sore shoulder. -I love the stock. I added a monopod to the back and it is a great setup. -The bolt is very smooth and I like having a left-handed bolt for quicker follow-up shots. -I added a Barrett carry handle to the rail and it is MUCH easier to carry/transport out of the case, such as at the range. I like having a rail that is so long for lots of mounting options. And now the bad: -Much heavier than other 50's. This probably helps with recoil, but it makes the gun not very mobile. -And the biggest issue I have, which I got no response from Bushmaster on at all. The magazine isn't held very solid in the front, and if you don't hold the mag up when loading rounds, the round doesn't load into the chamber, it just hits the magwell. If you try to start off with a full 10 round mag, the weight will easily tip the front of the mag down and it won't load properly when you try to chamber a round. The only solution I've found is to hold up on the mag when cycling the bolt. A ridiculous issue to have on a weapon like this. I emailed Bushmaster with no reply. That said, accuracy is good. I have gone to 750 yards with it and it is far more capable than I am. |

If that were truly a problem, I would like to think that one would keep calling until there was a solid resolution on a $4000+ gun. |
