What are the benefits of joining?
Right now, I can't really travel and do 1,000 yard competition, don't have a loading press to get good loads worked up, and my poor eye-sight might keep me from ever being competitive in shooting sports. That said, I mainly just shoot for fun plinking with API's. Should I even bother joining? |

I had it for a year. Lots of bickering on the forum and overall very weighted towards competition benchrest info. I expected alot more info in their forum, tacked threads, etc. Overall theres nothing you can't learn in this forum.
I just logged in to see how its lately and the forum is down to 1-2 posts a day in the 50BMG forum. They would do themselves a huge favor by making it a public forum and simply asking for donations/membership. |

plus one on this

That's why I've held off from joining, since I see their policies only hurting the chances of recruiting new shooters. If the forum were public, there'd be a lot more participation which in turn would draw more shooters into shooting the .50 BMG. I believe that .50 BMG rifles are one of the categories of shooting that the gun-grabbers see as "low-hanging fruit", since there are so few participants who would stand opposed. I've seen numerous statements from gun-owners that "they don't see why anyone needs a rifle that big". |
| Their supplier list alone is worth the membership. I got in touch with Lehigh bullets and picked up a bunch of semi bore riders without having to wait 6 months and they shoot like magic. Having the ability to search the forum for information and loads is a wealth of knowledge. I've been a member for about 6 months and think it's worth every penny. I don't get to compete yet but I would like to in the long run. It's easy to back stab but every group has it's people that like to argue. I've seen one person tossed from the forum for trying to stir shit. They just didn't put up with it. I've never gotten much in the way of loads on this forum and you have to be a member of FCSA to get that access. |
| My opinion based only on a little bit of internet posts from some members. The old timers who have the knowledge and are real nice don't mess with the internet and posting. The people that you don't want to hear from are the ones who post all the time. It also appears to be some politics between those people as well. |

Hello all. I'm on the board of directors of the Fcsa, and read the responses here.
A lot of the bickering and politics are in the past. (We hope) A lot of folks don't post very often but will respond to questions and like to share information. We do have a section for those new to .50s which answers a lot of questions. Another reason to join is the political influence of the club, and its efforts to keep the .50 legal. We've made a lot of progress about calming the politics and infighting down. One of the reasons for keeping the forum private is to keep the Spamdown. Another is to keep the discussions relatively civil, without a lot of moderation necessary. That hasn't always worked in the past. Please give the club and 50 community a try. The club is working hard to get past a lot of negatives, and has a lot to offer the individual member. |

When someone buys a membership, you should get instant access to the forums instead of having to wait for the snail mail.

Making the forum public would draw a lot more interest. The magazine could always be a regular subscription item like all of the other magazines out there. I have to say that the FCSA gives me the feeling that it's not really for the public and geared more towards their own little inside group. Just my impression. Too bad really because there are some amazing fellows in that group. A lot of 50 cal. information can be found here and on the Snipers Hide forum. |

| I was just on the forum after receiving my Very High Power magazine today. Eggman had an article about preheating some ammo using the 29N20 powder and it got too hot with a round cooking off and I had to comment on it and his being willing to talk about his "Oh shit" to help others prevent the same problem. I'm glad I joined and like the forum for figuring out loads for Lehigh bullets and other items that don't normally have publish information. They seem to be a good group of people. Like any group there is the occasional yoyo that opens their mouth and shoves their foot in it but it's normally handled quickly if its really out of hand. They tossed a guy a few months ago after he made some very rude and uncalled for comments of a personal nature. I didn't know the whole story but from what I read he was asking for it. They seem very willing to help a new person also. I have not started shooting any matches myself but would like to one of these days if they ever get some matches close enough for me to drive it. . |

FCSA main page.. Made it hot for you. BTW, you gotta remember that this is usually a slow time of year for shooting.
|
| They are a nice bunch of folks. They hold several meets at my club each year, Long Range Alley in Grand Cane, LA. I usually try to drop by and watch the shoots, and they have been very friendly and inclusive... even asking me to bring out my .50 and shoot with them. But they are way above my level. I'm just a .50 BMG plinker right now. |
|
FCSA is a treasure trove of information on the .50 BMG
iirc early members of FCSA were the resource the .mil used when they decided to consider using .50 BMG in sniping rifles. Access to back issues of the magazine has a lot of information on what works and what doesn't. Good people. I was very fortunate to have been able to call and talk with the late Skip Talbot about the .50 BMG and what was preferred in a custom gun; a very nice gentleman. He and others will be sorely missed from that group. |
|
The only reason I'm a member, is because you can't shoot any of their matches if you're not. They have been trying for years to monopolize the 50 BMG world. Just ask Nick Mullet. It's gotten a little better from a decade ago. It was rather elitist back then. The forum is a "check it once a week" because that's how slow it moves. There's probably only a dozen guys on there. |
|
Yeah, what they did to Nick was uncalled for! I was one of the only people that stood behind Nick and asked for proof of the BS they were spewing. In the end I gave up my membership and moved on to better things.
Personally I think they should've held matches at different ranges, 1000 yards is an accomplishment but the .50 is capable of a lot more then that. Nick also started his own .50 shooters association called the North Coast Shooters Association. He's got more .50 matches set up in places then the FCSA. He was also the only one to get .50 matches at Camp Perry. If your looking for something else, look him up as he's a great guy. |
