I am looking for a 50 for my collection. I am really just wanting one just to have one. Vulcan had some on gunbroker selling for not much over $1k. Yes I know Vulcan has a horrible rep but was very tempted due to the price lol. Honestly the only reason I started looking at 50's was because the price on the Vulcans. Kinda said to myself if I can find one for cheap Ill pick one up just for shits and giggles. Now the Vulcans are gone on gunbroker so I am seeing if anything else exists in that price range? I am wanting a complete rifle not much interest in just a upper. I see the State Arms and a few others are available for around $2500 is that about the lowest I can expect to pay or are there other makes offering them for less?

He also sells complete rifles...

Look at his history...Shits and giggles may be difficult in the 50 world if there is a failure...

A failure in a AR most likely won't kill you, you may lose an eye, but most likely not kill, a failure in a 50BMG can kill you. So what you telling me is your life is only worth $1k to you. Vulcan, Hesse or what ever they call themselves keep changing, names to avoid the bad rap from the shit they make, or lawsuits. A $1000 vulcan is a $1000 paper weight. 50BMGs are not cheap the ammo is expensive, the glass is expensive, and the rifles are expensive, no real way around that. Expect if you want to get in shooting an 50BMG that you are going to spend around 5K when all said and done.

The only way you are going to get in the price you want is to get an upper, if you already have an AR, why not just get an upper?

IMO the best budget .50 is a very nice .338 lapua. Much cheaper in almost every regard and they are just as accurate for just as far if not father.

I am well aware of Vulcan report. Dealt with them a couple times when I was in the firearms business. Honestly never had any problems with them but those where ar's that I bought which is obviously a completely different monster. I know all about the constant name changes and problems they have had. I would drop a grand no problem on one and be perfectly content if I never even shot it lol. Really just want one just because I can have one. I know it doesn't make a lot of since to most but it does to me. I just like the anesthetics of a big ass gun hung up in the office. So besides a upper and besides Vulcan is anyone making them for below $2k?

I have been eyeing these. How is their reputation? I like the mag fed one and would be a buyer if it fed from the bottom instead of the side. I take it that is about it in that range? I thought I remembered seeing another company making them in that price range. The company I'm thinking of had a chrome or nickel plated one.

how is 338 cheaper when compared to surplus 50 you can just plink with.

Please don't compare the cheapest 338 components bought on sale to match 50 cal.

you can reload top quality heavy Sierra .338 matchkings for around 90cents per round. What is surplus .50 going for these days? It was 2.50 a round last I saw.

ETA with everyday prices.

You don't seem to be adding in the cost of brass and if that is the case I can load my 50BMG for around 75 cents a shot with mil surplus bullets and powder. 25 cents for the primer, 35 cents for the bullet, around 15 cents for the powder. My surplus brass is also much cheaper at only 75 cents a piece. The cheapest I can find 338 brass is around $2.

I do know the precision stuff costs more for the 50BMG but that is what you pay for when you go big. The advantage to that is with the precision bullets the BC on the 50BMG cannot be beat. Making it less prone to wind deflection and able to hold its speed advantage over longer distances.

I also love the variety of ammo that the 50 can offer. There is nothing like watching an API explode on impact 1,800 yards away and still be perfectly visible to the shooter in broad daylight without any magnified optics. The spotter tracer can't be beat either when it comes to fun shooting.

That being said there are some definite advantages to the .338 Lapua. But cheap plinking ammo is not one of them.

I have had two 50's.  A Serbu BFG and an AR50. The Serbu was actually my favorite of the two. It was lighter and I could shoulder it if I wanted to.  Accuracy of either seemed about the same to me but I never really stretched the legs on either.  If I were to do another I'd go short, light and suppressed. The AR50 should have been on wheels and towed with a vehicle.

Why hijack OPs thread?  OP didn't ask your opinion about 338LM, so why give it?

Owning both 50BMG and 338LM I can say both have their places, but you cannot compare 338LM to 50BMG...you don't get AP/API option with 338LM.  Comparing 338LM and 50BMG is foolish.

I have been really happy with my safety harbor mag fed upper. I am becoming very convinced that safety harbor offers the best value in .50 BMG.

I bought the fifth one he ever made.

After over 10,000 rounds through it (and a full rebarrel/rebuild) I'm ready to put it through 10,000 more.

I love that thing!

If you want 50 just to have a 50 the Vulcan will fill that role nicely. Since you don't plan on shooting it I'd go for it. Besides, youmight be saving someone else's life.

I can't imagine buying a fifty and not firing it...I bough my rifle used and un-fired, it stayed that way for less than a week...There are lots of threads on here about 'best' budget .50. As far as Best budget .50 you will never fire? Maybe a ma deuce resin display/dummy gun

nothing wrong with state arms at all.  stay away from vulcan.  I have never heard anything good about vulcan.  state arms is not even close to the same as vulcan.  state arms is legit, though you have other options on this thread as well.  just throwing it out there.
