That noreen is a shellholder gun. Its not loaded like a normal bolt action.

ooo huh..  i just looked at the pics of the other guns... they kinda look the same..  the  whole bolt has to come out of the gun to reload..i think?

In that price range for a complete bolt action there are only two companies...

Serbu

Safety Harbor

I paid 2600 OTD for my AR 50, but this was few years back, you can often find used AR50 in that range, sometimes even new.

State Arms rifles shoot very well, if you do your part they will shoot sub MOA at 1000 yards. The Watsons Firearms rifles are State Arms parts built for Watsons Firearms.

Ive handled a State Arms 50 at a LGS, and it was very nice, I think for the price they make fine rifles.

Like I said, those are your bolt-action options. The rest of the rifles you are looking at are shell holder actions.

AR50s can be had w/ round counts of 10 for $2250.    You just have to be patient and look.

Ar50's are nice.. I hear they throw a lot of crap back because of the break..... i sat beside a guy with a Ar338?  and wow niice gun   but anyone beside him moved after his first shot..

ALL 50's with a brake throw crap all over the place.... that's part of the appeal of owning one.

If your budget is $2500 for the rifle, what glass are you going to mount on her?

1/17/2012 1:06:17 PM EDT
[#16]
the budget was for rifle only.. dont want to spend more than that on a rifle. glass...dunno yet... plus i still gotta get a lee 50bmg reloading kit..  honestly to start off im probly just gonna mount a cheap scope that says its 50bmg approved..and see how it goes till i can afford a leopuld(cant spell it), night force, or something of that nature...

I think you should just get yourself a 50 that does well (chambers without issue) with surplus and try it out first.  Save your brass and one day perhaps you'll have a bud who can teach you how to reload.

sorry,  I reload alot.. .223, .243, .303, 6.5x55, 7,62x54r...soo i know how to reload.  however a .50 might be a wee bit different.....  i do plan on getting the reloading kit last...that way i might have some brass saved up from fireing, plus itll be fireformed...mm just thought ill have to find a neck sizeing die..i think the one with the lee kit is a full body....ive pretty much settled on a state arms( I LOVE that wood stock).

Any decent brake on a fifty will blow full water bottles off of the adjacent benches.  Reloading the fifty is different from the lesser rounds.  It's more different if you use milsurp brass.  The Lee sizing die will neck size if you don't have it cranked down to the shellholder.  Three words of advice on full length sizing fifties: Imperial Sizing Wax.  I love shooting my fifty as well as watching other people shooting it.  May you enjoy the journey you are starting out on.

Lee does make a collet die for the 50 but it is a special order item that is not listed.  Not sure on price.

If you want the best accuracy a State arms is said to be great but not "tacticool".
A used Mcbros will get you there as well.

if you can find an AR-50 for cheap then I suppose that'd be damn hard to beat, otherwise State Arms wins pick of the litter; if the Noreen hadn't increased in price so much I'd lean that way & mod its stock.

*put 150rds through a Steyr 50. then sold for hefty profit

Edit: let me add, my next 50 may be a XLR chasis with a State Arms barreled action ($2200-2500)

The AR50 is hands-down the best rifle for the money. It also shoots like a dream with that big muzzle brake on the end.

I would shop around for the right AR50 before I settled for something less.
