Edit your thread title to reflect that you are asking about the LAR Grizzly and I expect you'll get responses from those folks that have LAR Grizzlies, including imtheflash.
If I recall, imtheflash shot his LAR Grizzly at an FCSA match at Quantico a couple weeks ago. He can tell you how he did. Advantages of LAR Grizzly: Short for barrel length. Light for barrel length. Long 36" barrel, fairly inexpensive at around $2500, Solidly built, Older, proven design Disadvantages of LAR Grizzly: Fairly slow to load since buttpad has to come off, limited on accessories, fairly inefficient brake Other guns in the $3000 or less range include the AR-50, State Arms Shorty, State Arms Rebel, Safety Harbor, BGA Viper, UL-50 upper, ALS upper, Ferret50 upper, BOHICA, Serbu BFG-50, and maybe a few others. If I was limited to $2500 or less, i'd go with a State Arms rifle or a Ferret 50 but that is just my preference. You need to figure out your applicaiton for the gun. -David Edgewood, NM |

I have the LAR Grizzly and I used to have an AR-50. Between the two, overall I like shooting the
Grizzly better. That's probably mostly because I shoot lefty and my AR-50 was RH and I just never could get comfortable with it. I also like the compactness of the Grizzly. It's a lot easier to transport without a truck. As far as accuracy goes, it's widely reported that the AR-50 is a more accurate gun, but to be honest, both guns can outshoot me so for me it was a moot point. As David says, the muzzle brake is supposed to be more efficient than the Grizzly's, but I didn't see much difference and my perception is that my Grizzly is less recoil than my AR-50 was with the same ammo. Since I never got to shoot them side by side I can't say if that is the case or not. It is probable that since I *enjoy* shooting the Grizzly and I *tolerated* shooting the AR-50, that it's just a perception issue. The triggers on both guns were great. I didn't get rid of my AR-50, it died in my house fire. I would own one again no problem, though I would prefer a LH version. Actually, I like the bolt handle on the RH side, it's just that the stock is not set up to be ambidextrous. |

At Crossroads of the West in SLC last weekend, there was a guy from Montana, some machine shop, that builds a rifle such as that which you describe for $1600.
The website is OnlyLongRange He claimed 1MOA accuracy with match ammo. Don't know if anybody has any experience with these. SOA |

Dave and I had dinner after verification on Friday.. he got two 3rd place plaques and shot a 10" group at 1k. Not bad at all considering it rained hard enough to strangle a friggin' frog. |

Action looks somewhat like a State Arms clone. I'd suggest sticking with a proven gun, such as the State Arms Shorty. Known performance...known reliability...still around $2K. -David Edgewood, NM |
