| I have an opportunity to buy a State Arms 50cal, it is a model 79 with a walnut thumbhole stock topped with a Redfield 20x fixed power scope. Part of the deal is 300 rounds of 50 in a metal ammo can and 50 or so rounds loose mixed manufacturer. The package price is $2000. I can't pass up the deal and will probably go through with it. Has anyone had any dealings with this particular rifle? I hope it is as good as the current production State Arms rifles. I did a Google search and didn't find anything. Thanks |

Make sure it's a heck of a deal. Since the advent of the newer State Arms rifles, from what I can tell the old ones are a bitch to sell. A guy has had one like you describe on Gunbroker for months. The new State Arms guns are all I have experience with. I had one until recently. -David Edgewood, NM |
| That was kind of what I was thinking also. I was looking at it as more of an investment that anything. If that goofy Obama some how gets elected(God help us all) I see the 50's and all things related with it being the first gun related thing to be attacked and outlawed. The price of ammo and 50 guns will increase. My 401k is tanking now and this purchase can't possible do worse that it. I don't think that I will lose money on the transaction. What did that other State Arms rifle sell for? I don't want to sell this set-up but, I am just curious. |

The one i'm talking about is an M model and it's Still on gunbroker. Here's the link: www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=105950949. The scope and rings are worth maybe $200, maybe less. The ammo really depends. If it's really old surplus, it may be worth very little, say $1.50 a round for components. If it's yellow-tip dominican, it's worth about $0.75 a round. If it's Lake City, mid 1950's or later, probably $2.50-$3.00 a round. To many variables to tell you if its a good deal. -David Edgewood, NM |
that thing has been on gunbroker for the last 7 plus months |
It'll be there for the next 7 years at $3750...

I own one of the "Original" State arms 50s (#29 of 50 of the Knob Creek Y2K models). When I was originally thinking about building my .50BMG rifle, I had a talk with Klaus Horstcamp (sp?) the original designer/owner/gunmaker of state arms, some 25+ years ago (before the big .50BMG craze) about why I should have him build my rifle..... His answers, knowledge, and wisdom are what sold me, right then & there that this is "The guy!" Enter>>>marriage, Work, kids, & life in general.....and It was 15-20+ years before I was even able to think about being able to purchase a .50BMG. When the time came...I was one of the first in line for the Serbu BFG-50 (#128)...not being able to find my information on "That Guy" I had talked to "all those years ago." While on the "Just two Weeks!"(+6 months) waiting list for My Serbu, I happened to learn that "State Arms" was really Klaus Horstcamp (sp?)...">That Guy!<" Then...As if by some Divine cosmic plan...I happened to get a check in the mail for more than the cost of one of his KCY2K specials!..... I called the next day, talked to Mr. & Mrs. Horstcamp (sp?) and ordered it. From the day It arrived, till today...I am always impressed with it....it's look, it's machining, and it's accuracy. If we had not lost Mr. Horstcamp, I would still be thinking about buying another one today....(and I have one kid in collage & one graduating high school this year!) I am that impressed with mine. BUY THE RIFLE! shoot the rifle, Love the rifle. Show it off, let others shoot it......drive the Anti's CRAZY! Tall Shadow
