i am thinking about picking up a can for my soon to be arriving 50... I looked at AWC, which is $1700 direct from them, $35 shipping, then the $200 tax stamp.. I looked at some of the other sites, but cannot seem to find any others for the .50.. I know there was a topic on here a while back, and i looked for it, but cant seem to find it... Any and all help would be appreciated.. I noticed on AWC, the .308 ones are bout $800, why would the .50 be almost $1000 more? Tony |

Maybe now.. When i bought my DPMS LR-308 with 18" Bull Barrel i paid $ 900, now they are around $1400 or so.. That is the main thing i want the suppressor for, is the noise reduction.. How does the Form 1 work and make my own ? My dads friend has a lathe and maybe i can talk to him and see what he can do.. thanks, tony |
it is almost like buying a suppressor you fill out the forms send in your money and they send you the paper work to make your own suppressor its not quite that easy but its not that hard if you have a good class 3 dealer around you he can help you for a small fee |
Ok i will check with my local class III dealer I would have no idea where to begin with building my own suppressor And i highly doubt there are websites showing you how to build one, if so, i am sure people wouldnt do the forms.. Dastrieg, any and all help would be greatly appreciated.. Not sure if you have built one already.. Tony |
that rifle is soooooooooooooooooooooo damn sexy....... |
You can go to a gun show there are dealers that sell books on how to make suppressors or you can search on line to get the basics on suppressors they are not hard to make, the hard part is to make them very effective that takes some trial and error and the savings out weights the gains of buying one just remember a 50 suppressor is very large so the first one you make dont try to make it the size of a 22 suppressor try these http://www.firingpin.com/suppressor.htm http://www.gun-shots.net/firearm-gun-silencers-suppressors.shtml |
And everytime you do I remind you to quit posting it It's killing me (Runs off to buy some FCSA raffle tickets) |
you meen this one???? ![]() ![]()

Very nice! Can you fire your rifle without hearing protection though? Whats the weight? Whats the length? How long did it take you to make it? Thanks |

KiddBear- check out the suppressor forum here on AR15.com. Also if you really get interested in rolling your own check out silencertests.com (I hope I don't get band for mentioning that website The reason for doing the Form 1 (and hopefully reading and learning as much as you can about NFA rules) is to keep from committing a felony and becoming another whipping boy for the ATF. A lot of the ATF rules do not follow any common sense logic, but you better know them well if you tend to venture into this arena. Oh...and for all you that posted the pics of your suppressed 50s I have some questions. How quiet are they really (still need muffs I would guess)? How is the recoil with a suppressor?? Thanks all! |
I've never shot my AMSD .50 with suppressor without muffs as I share the firing point with other .50's without cans.....ouch... ![]() I believe that I could easily shoot it without hearing protection though, its that efficient. As it happens, I'll be shooting the .50 at a military range in Wales tomorrow. I'll try to co-ordinate the guys in our club such that I can give it a try without hearing protection. The can weighs 7.5 lbs, but I'd say I get more muzzle flip than recoil with it fitted. Cheers Steven |

Oh...and for all you that posted the pics of your suppressed 50s I have some questions. How quiet are they really (still need muffs I would guess)? How is the recoil with a suppressor?? hello. me and my friends never use hearing protection while shooting the 50 with the silencer. it is that quiet! its a big wwwhhhhoooossshhh sound and you can hear some bullet noise? but it doesnt sound like a gunshot at all. hard to explain unless you have heard it. i was skeptical when i first got it, as mark white ( sound technologys ) said it would be hearing safe, but it truly is amazing how quiet it is. mine does stiffen recoil a little bit. nothing that is unbearable. if shot over 35rds in a single time and felt nothing. extremely good investment. mine is 2 inches round. it is 12 inches long. it weighs 5lbs. thread diameter of 1-1/2x14! kirk |
Yeah, thats it, just a big Phooossshhh!! sound....quite high-pitched. I'll try to take some video tomorrow and post it on youtube or something.... I'm always amazed at just how quiet it is after shooting it with the brake on...In fact, my shooting buddy who also has the same can won't shoot his .50 suppressed anymore as it takes all the fun out of it...ie he loves the Big BOOOM

I personally experienced a dramatic increase in accuracy this weekend, with an AR10 that I finally got to shoot with a new SRT titanium shadow I FINALLY received. Sweeeeetttt I believe that what most are seeing in increased accuracy are the removal of muzzle brakes and flash suppressors that can kill accuracy in many instances. I have 125 rds into an AR50 I would love to suppress. It shoots so damn well, I'm tempted to put a can on for all the reasons listed previous. Unfortunately Doug at SRT does not want to make one, and the AAC Cyclops is tempting but at $3000.00 that’s a LOT OF SHOOTIN AMMO! I'd be in the market for half that, any other ideas? I see a post above about Mark [Sound Technologies] that I may check out, any other suggestions I'm listening |
|
hello. yes, check out sound technology. i think i paid 1500.00 with the transfer. excellant guy to deal with. also, the bullet looses velocity the minute it leaves the barrel, not when leaving the silencer. as far as a silencer making a gun more accurate, it really depends on how the internal design of the can is. ive got a 22 can that moves the bullet about 1 inch to the left no matter what you put it on. my 50 can doesnt change the accuracy at all. it always shoots in the same spot whether the silencer is on or i use the muzzle brake. kirk |
I'd like to hear that sometime |
thats a good stretch there. how many people have an extra lathe and mill lying around, not to mention the machining skills and knowledge of suppressor design. I started out on silencertalk and now I'm halfway through a two year manual machining / cnc programming degree program at my local community college. After six classes and a year of working on a lathe and mill, I can say that I certainly have the skills to finally machine a suppressor with relative ease but you still have to work on an effective design. So far I have 5k in my lathe setup at the house. A can from a vendor would have certainly been much cheaper, but its a fun skill to have. |
