I came across several scopes at gunbroker.com that just seemed to good to be true. Does anyone have any information on these. I have found 10-40x50mm, 8-32x50mm in 30mm tubes. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=95232140 With all of the options, and even weaver rings included, it seems somewhat strange. What even confuses me more is the lack of a manu. information. However, if this is the real deal, it does seem to have advantages of the fixed power Super Sniper everyone recommends. Price, Red/Green illumination, Variable power, flip-up covers, shades, spare battery, and rings. Just seems out of place for the price if you ask me. Any advice would be welcome |
| As already stated, they are cheap Chinese scopes. With that said, they dealer I talked with said they are warranted for use on .50BMG. He told me if it breaks, he would give me another. I passed on the deal and picked up a Bushnell 3200 Elite for just a little more money. |

50 BMG proven scopes: Nightforce NXS series Nightforce Benchrest series Leupold Mk 4 30mm Variable series Leupold Mk 4 30mm fixed series Leupold 30mm Long Range scopes US Optics (all) Supersniper (all) Schmitt & Bender PMII (not alot in use yet) Bushnell Elite 3200 10x (Barretts ship with them but I WOULDN'T BUY ONE) These are the only Scopes that are 50 BMG proven. THERE ARE NO OTHERS. If you want to put a cheap scope on your gun, get a Supersniper. It'll work fine. If you want something cheaper, plan on wasting bullets, powder, primers, and brass life not to mention barrel life on rezeroing when you replace that cheapie scope two or three times. It's pretty darn simple, people. -David Edgewood, NM |

We've had FCSA members with IOR Valdada scopes that got shelled out on their 50's and IOR has poor customer service for civilian customers. That's why they aren't on my list above. And for the record, a company calling their scope "50 BMG Rated" doesn't mean squat unless you trust their warranty and don't mind wasting ammo and time remounting and rezeroing their scope after the send you a new one that will probably break too. -David Edgewood, NM |

I know I am going to catch it from some, but I'll chime in on this one. Why would anyone spend thousands on a rifle and then look to mount a cheap $300 scope on it? I know this argument has raged for years, but it is still a valid question. The only reliable 50 BMG "budget" scope worth looking at is the Super Snipers. IMHO. There are allot of cheap Chinese scopes out there, but they will most certainly fail. All of them. I say spend the money, you'll be glad you did. US Optics is tops on my list followed closely by S&B and NF. Leupold next. I am reminded of an old saying. " The bitterness of poor quality lingers long after the sweet taste of low cost fades away." |
Good question. The only reason I can see to put a cheap scope on a rifle that costs a couple thousand dollars, or even a thousand is to get shooting now and upgrade later when funds are available. And in the case of .50 Bmg, the only cheap scope that should be considered (also IMHO) is a Super Sniper. That's what I'm doing. I'll be putting a SS on my SA Rebel and upgrading to a Nightforce in the future (next year's tax return?). |
Yeah Flash, and you've been an asshole longer than i've been breathing. I look forward to seeing you at a match soon and SMOKING YOUR TAIL. Put your money where your mouth is boy. See you at Raton. -David Edgewood, NM |

Talked to many people that use a burris on their 50. Fullfield II's even! I'd put a black diamond up against pretty much anything. I also know of plenty of people that shoot matches with other off brands. Some work, some dont. Matter of fact... never heard of a scope brand that has NEVER failed on a .50 BMG. Even the almighty nightforce's have been RMA'd. Little too much hype in a lot of that stuff I think. Something to be said for a quality optic though. :) |

Well, I probably will go with a Super Sniper. And as some of you mentioned not everyone can buy a .50cal and a scope that costs just as much. I am one of those. Being still in college and living on my own, I think buying reloading supplies, a .50 upper, a scope, a new lower reciever since my other is telescoping, and ammo to boot is no easy venture for most shooters in their early 20's. For these reason i would like to thank everyone for giving me advice, and I won't be buying the scope for right away so please keep the advice coming. With the talks of bans and all on the horizon I don't think it will hurt our cause finding the cheapest most effective way to get solid shooting .50 rigs to as many people that we can. My girlfriend can't wait for me to get it lol. She still brags about shooting my 7mm rem magnum and a friends .50 beowulf. I might not can afford a nightforce yet, but feeling pretty lucky I have a girl that encourages my rifle spending lol. Now on to the debate of which magnification to get. 16x or 20x. I will probably take my 22-250 out and play around with its scope at different ranges to get a feel of which fixed magnification I like best. Any advice on magnification is appreciated. |

Ok, for the bohica which mount/rings seem to be the most bang for your buck for the Super Sniper Scopes. The nightforce Unimount seems pretty expensive, and I keep seeing people mention wanting a 20moa angle for the flat top bohica. Is this so that the elevation adjustment will not be stressed for long range shooting?? Is this 20moa needed? I'd like to avoid spending $260 on just a mount, when I am sure there are others out there that probably work just as well for a much better price. |
Don't let me take all the credit, you've done a better job of proving that here than I have. Besides what does me using a Burris scope have to do with beating you at a match? |
I use the burris extreme tactical rings. Very robust and not that expensive. |
|
I got the X-high. Work great in conjunction with my PRS stock. With the super sniper you could probably get away with the "high" mounts. Medium, I wouldnt be sure. I would have to hold one up to see if there was enough scope clearance and if I could get behind it properly. |

It really depends upon the objective size and how log your rail is. The Cobb has a rather long rail, and since my USO has decent, but not a significantly long eye relief and a 58 mm objective, the Burris XTR high rings work, but afer mounting the gap between the scope and the rail was a bit too close for me. So, I switched to the extra high rings to insure they did not come in contact with one another due to flex induced under recoil. Since the Super Sniper has a smaller diameter objective, the high rings should work fine. |
