My upper ships next friday, If someone can tell me how in the hell to attach photo's I will. I got the 24" @ the $865 price. (CQB model) |
| Just paid for mine over the phone, should ship tuesday. Talked a little about accuracy. The suggested hornady a-max of course & also the black tip ap. Interesting. But, they wil consistantly whack a 5 gal bucket @ 800 w/ el-cheapo surplus ammo. Thats good for me. |
What setup did you order and how much was it if you don't mind me asking??? Do they come with the bipod attached or is that extra?? -Derek |
the bipod is standard, and from the photos it looks like it folds away fairly well hopefully for smooth bench rest operation. They come in a standard 24" configuration for $995, I bought mine with the 30" option which was $100 extra. I am asking for some lower recommendations: I wanted the Safety Harbor Firearms lower, but they only offer it marked "Cal .510 DTC", I don't think this is safe or responsible for a 50 BMG weapon that could actually accidentally chamber a shortened round. If you get the Bohica in 510 DTC (they are listed as offered) then it would be awsome. The DPMS is ok but that superfluous mag catch, and as the guy at safety harbor said, "those are marked 223 or 5.56". He has a point too, but at least then its just incorrect instead of dangerous. I just dont know, does anyone else know of any others available? |
I actually tested for that in my .50BMG UltraMag50 conversion. First of all, it would be possible only with DTC 'forming' ammo to even chamber the round into the BMG barrel. Fireformed DTC cases are too fat and have the wrong shoulder angle to chamber at all. In my tests, the brass simply stretched back to BMG size (extra 1/10") right where you'd expect it to. About 1/2" above the web. I tried it twice and though the brass became obviously thin there, it didn't burst or separate. Looked just like what you'd get from an M2HB with the headspace set too long. I'll post some pics, if I can find those cases again.... |

Should receive mine this next week! I’m getting the 30” barrel and putting on a standard AR 15 lower with an A2 stock. Does any one know of different stock to use on the lower? Also got some reloading supplies from Hi-Tech this last week, now all I need is a good scope and a press. |
That's the entire purpose behind the uppers that mount to AR15 lowers. Who gives a shit what caliber is marked on the lower receiver. If you don't want the magazine catch then remove it. You could always buy an 80% finished lower and build it yourself. No mag catch and you can mark it any way you want. |
|
Don't really care whats on the lower. If you don't like it, drop another $2000 & get what you want. I did find a mag well block from brownells that will fill the magazine void. flat on the bottom & looks to clean up the overall appearance. Need to order one today. |

IIRC, someone posted regarding an UltraLite50, that they filled an old magazine with epoxy/lead shot and trimmed it to fit with the upper. Also filled the butttstock with shot. The idea was to make the assembly heavier so as to further manage recoil while shooting from the bench, but able to be lightened easily to take it into the field. |

For those of you who like power tools you can get the 70% lower from the Tannery, it has a solid mag well. Simlar to an 80% but for that 50 cal upper. I read a post a while back from a person who had a 50BMG upper on his Cav-II lower and had fired several hundred rounds with no ill effect, that one seems a bit light for my taste. |

Here you go; [email protected] and I guess you already have their web site address which is where I got this; http://www.bohicaarms.com/ I should have mine in a few weeks, it's ready to ship. |
| I have seen 2 of these uppers in local gun shops. IIRC, one was a 24" and the other was a 30". I was in a bit of a time pinch since I was on lunch break but from what I gathered in the short amount of time that I had to check them out, these are very high quality uppers. I'm totally pumped up to get mine! Chances are that I'll pick my upper from Bohica next week (might as well save a bit on shipping). I'll be sure to post pics. |
