I am trying to justify buying a 50. i do not have a long range bolt or semi rifle, so i was thinking that 50BMG would be a good caliber to get into that realm with.
i am able to get the barrett 82 and 95 at dealer cost, however i have read a few places that their accuracy is not too great, like 2ish MOA.
how is this possible for such an expensive rifle?
is there a different brand i should consider for accuracy?

well, 2moa accuracy is fine if you're shooting at a truck

if you're popping crows at 1000yd it's a different story.

i was just shocked that the 2MOA is acceptable considering it is used by marines as a sniper rifle, some times used against human targets despite the pointless geneva convention...

Perhaps, you should spring for the 99 which is the single shot bolt version of Barrett's offerings - you'll obtain greater accuracy, save $$$, then spend the extra cash on ammo & good glass - either US Optics or Schmidt & Bender.

my $0.02

I'm a Buffet fan also.

You need to go over to Fifty Caliber Shooting Association's website and look at the venders.  There are some very accurate 50's.  http://www.fcsa.org/  Also, you should consider joining the FCSA as they have tons of information for you and are supporters of our right to own these great guns.

I have a AR-50 by Armalite and love it.  Got it for $2600 with scope base, rings, and bipod from Knesek.  With pulled and resized AP bullets (about 10 cents a piece but going up fast), I am getting under 1 MOA if I weigh the bullets.  Another site you should go to is Knesek as he has some very good prices on 50's. http://www.knesekguns.com/

Probably the best site to look at for new 50 shooters is  http://www.hevanet.com/temple/

Other sites to look at are:  http://www.patsreloading.com/patsrel/prices.htm  http://www.barrettrifles.com/DiscussionForum_YAF/default.aspx?g=forum  http://www.tbirdammo.com/  http://www.armalite.com/sales/catalog/rifles/ar50.htm

USMC does not consider a Barrett M82 or a M107 a sniper rifle, it must be a 1 moa rifle to be considered a sniper rifle. Marines consider the M82a3 and the M107 a "SASR" special application scoped rifle

i will inherit a 99, so i am more so leaning towards the 95 or 82 barrett.
you mentioned a more accurate brand of 50's, would those be in the same price range as say the barrett 99 or 95?

Here are a few options:
~$5,000 and up: McBros rifles
~$7,500: EDM Windrunner M96
~$13,000: Accuracy International AW50
