Howdy, I have yet to purchase anything that will fire a .50 BMG, but am %95 committed to having something converted by SSK into a .510 Whisper platform in the next few years. Every person I speak to, however, tells me that the .50 BMG is to be targetted by the Dems. very, very soon and that I should stock up on ammo while I can. When I get the rifle, I will be reloading so I plan on purchasing a small stock of .50 BMG bullets now before they skyrocket in price. My question is, do the cut marks make that big of a difference on pulled ammo as far as performance and accuracy goes?? I am thinking of purchasing some .50 API, collet pulled bullets with no vertical cut marks for $27 per hundred at Pats Reloading, but he also sells the same, but without the sans-cut marks claim, for $15 per hundred. Do the cut marks really make that big of a difference? I realize that this is not match ammo. I'm still trying to find Hornady 750 grain A-Max rounds for a decent price for that kind of shooting. But as far as sighting in / plinking would go, just some regular ball ammo would be great. For some reason that I'm not sure of, Pat's Reloading has the following: 50 BMG, FMJ Ball 647 grain, 700 gr. Ball .35 each, 500-160.00, 1000 290.00, resized, tumbled, nice, these are processed, ready to load 50 BMG, FMJ AP, 700 grain, .29 ea, 500-125.00, 1000-$225, resized, tumbled nice, these are processed and ready to load 50 BMG, API, sized, tumbles, processed ready to load, 100-15.00, 500-59.99, 1000-109.00 Shouldn't that be the other way around?? Shouldn't ball be the cheapest, followed by AP and then API??? If anyone recommends either way about the cut marks difference, location to buy the least expensive A-Max bullets or just general advice on this would be appreciated. Thanks. |

He doesn't have 647gr FMJ Ball in stock. The only ball rounds you're going to find in stock right now is the new production 690gr south african bullets. In general, there is a higher demand for ball because most ranges don't allow incendiary, tracer, etc. I've loaded AP rounds with the vertical cut marks. You should size them before you load them to ensure they're not out-of-round. Lee sells a sizing die for about $13 at midway. I've gotten good accuracy at 100 yds with them (about 1-1 1/2" groups). |
