I am mounting optics on a Barret 82CQ. The scope I have has a 1" tube and a 50mm objective lense. I would like rings that have a quick detach lever. What are my options and what would likely be optimal. I need to be able to order the rings tommorrow and receive them by midweek. Thanks in advance! |
| I had a set of Warne Maxima Steel QD rings on my AR-50 for a while and they held up just fine. For no other reason than I did not need QD and I did need to use them on another project I switched over to fixed BO Max 50 rings, but I have absolutely no complaints about how the Warne performed. You can get them up to extra-high in 1 inch or Ultra-high in 30mm. |

Let me first preface this by saying I have no empirical knowledge to back this up, but I have a STRONG suspicion that most folks don't use QD rings on a .50 because of the generous recoil these guns are known for. This is especially true if you have an efficient muzzle brake on your rig. An efficient brake causes recoil in both directions: a rearward recoil typical of most rifles, and a forward recoil when the brake takes effect, jerking the rifle to a stop and then forwards, thus reducing the felt recoil. These two forces have been known to wreck havoc on some regular non-QD rings in general. I'd be worried about using even quality QD rings on your Barrett.... YMMV |

i'd have to wonder if QD would be wise, although i've heard of GG&G as well as Larue making stuff they claim will work with hefty cals... you might consider a good set of rings for your base rail and with proper installation, removal, and reinstallation procedures the POI should be relatively unchanged. IOR, Smith, Badger, PRI, and few others make some top notch rings. don't forget seekinsprecision.com - ask Glenn if he has some units specifically for the 50. hope this helps. -ST13 |
