Howdy

As you can see this is my first post on the site. I try to answer most of my own problems but there just isnt alot of dead on answers for this question. I have an LAR being transfered to my FFL  (yeah i know its not as "cool" as some but i like the bulpup). It has the standard barrel, not stainless, and i was wondering if i found some cheap(er) API or APIT ammo if it is hard on the barrel?

Oh and while i got you experts here, what would be a good scope for a beginer? It is just the "feild grade" chamber and im lookin to have FUN not make a job out of ithat
Thanks

It won't hurt your bore.  The AP core is inside of the jacket which is usually copper over mild steel.  As a precaution, if you shoot tracers, treat them as if they were corrosive.  They can/may leave a residue that could cause rust.

ATN=POS

They just don't make it on .50's and probably have a worse track record then Tasco Super Sniper scopes on .50's. Buy yourself a used Leupold, at least they have a good customer service and warranty.

SWEET! thanks for all the help!! I thought the ATN might be a joke even though it says "designed for the 50". Figured Leupold was the answer. Well, there goes another $1200 bucks

Thanks for the help

Nightforce scopes.

Here's mine........Your gonna love yours, even the feild grade barrel is extremely accurate and less prone to wear. Recoil is heavy but not sharp and the break is very effective at reducing the "slap-in-the-face" effect BMG's tend to give bystanders.

I am so happy with mine, and I also just love the looks of it. It just looks like "It means business"

The glass is the Tasco Super-Sniper 20X. Cant think of a better mill-dot scope for a better price. Hell you'd be hard pressed to find something better for three times the price!

Hey, Glad to see another LAR. I thought i was goona be on my own on this one. Nice lookin rig, i like the look of the all black too. Seems like most people tend to shy away from them for some reason of another. maybe because its a "3 handed gun to load"

How many rounds has it held up to? I guess i would realy like to get down into the 800$ range but if im goona spend that much and have the guts ripped out of it might as well spend the 1200 or so. But for the price of the tasco i can gamble my odds

Ever thought about a PSG-1 style grip on there? I belive AR-15 parts work, right?

How much differnce does the field or match chamber really make? If match ammo is used in both?

I have the ATN 12-36X80 that is specifically made for the .50 Cal that has a Bullet Drop Compensator for the .50.  I haven't shot more than 50 rounds through it, but so far everything is great.  You just can't beat the huge 80mm objective for gathering light.  ATN offers a lifetime warranty with their scopes too.  I bought mine from opticsplus.  Make sure that you select the more expensive one to get the lifetime warranty.  Or for a hundred and some bucks less you get one that was a Demo.  I bought the Demo and couldn't see a mark on it that would indicate that it was ever mounted though.  One thing about opticsplus, I had to call them to ask for a tracking number so that I could be home when it arrived.  I didn't call until 5 days after ordering and two days later when I received my tracking number, I found out that it wasn't shipped until the day after I had called.  I would really suggest another dealer which can be found at ATNs website.

wow this is awsome, i think its quite possible that this web page knows everything and has every piece of equipment.

You know, i was thinkin, maybe we sould start a thread just for 50 caliber scopes. I mean i cant be the only guy that wonders about these high dollar things. Any beginer would like me wants to see all thier options and people past experiances.

Nope havent thought much about it and haven dissasembled the triger group.....but as far as the firing mechanism goes it is much different than an AR.

Havent taken it out past 500 yrds. but I think thats about where you start seeing a difference.

Hey, i would just like to say thanks guys. Picked up the LAR tuesday and i just broke down and bought the leupold scope. I only got the 6.5-20 so i can dial it down and do some close range stuff too. Got the lighted recticle. Picked up the scope for just a touch over a grand. You know, i *should* have it for a life time so maybe its a good investment. Plus, i really like how the MARK 4 M1 has the cross hairs set up so that you can range an object at ANY power setting.
