I have lost the vison in both my eyes; the retinas are fully detached. The result of shooting the .50 BMG. This however has not affected my shooting. I'm still a very poor shot. People at the range however sure get freaked out when I start swinging that barrel around after the all clear has been given. |
| I let a guy shoot my ar50 yesterday and he said that he knew a guy whos retinas got detached. I started laughing and asked for the guys whos eyes had been detached phone number. Alot of people would love to hear his story. Turns out it was a friend of a friend and he didn't have the number. Really nice guy had his young son out shooting a 10/22. After he shot it he couldn't believe how little the recoil was. |
I agree, its all bullshit. I worked at Armalite for 2 years and had to test fire the racks of new AR50's ( i know poor me) the worst i ever got was a headache. |

Not exactly related to firing a gun, but detached retinas DO happen. My nephew got a detached retina from being hit by another kid. He was 13 or 14 at the time. Here's the sad part: Because his mother and father (his father being my brother) were getting a divorce at the time and quite frankly she's unhinged in many ways, my nephew didn't tell her that he had mostly lost the vision in one eye because he didn't want her to get mad at him for that, too. How freaking sad is that? Utterly pathetic. A woman who's so angry and explosive that her own son is afraid to tell her that he's gone blind in one eye. Treatment for the detached retina came about ....a YEAR....after it happened. Retinal detachment can be treated and normal vision can be restored in some cases. If the treatment occurs within about 48 hours of the detachment. There is a lesson to be learned here. That is, no matter what sort of shit is happening in YOUR life, you can't get into such a state that your kids FEAR talking to you and telling you what's wrong with them. As far as I'm concerned, that's a form of child abuse. In this case, one that has resulted in permanent physical harm to the point that my nephew is PROBABLY eligible for disability NOW. Incidentally, my father who is diabetic has had retinal detachments and he has been treated with laser surgery and he does have full vision. It's not great in the eye that had the DR's, but it's better than no vision at all and better than my nephew has in his DR-affected eye. CJ |
Ah hell, the question was already answered seriously, and if you have noticed, a huge percentage of NME's posts reference the "Deagle wit beamz". Besides, I seriously doubt anyone can get to 12K posts with nothing but serious contributions... |

Just an FYI I own and shoot an AR50, However while shooting a serbu BFG with EXTREMLY hot ik98 headstamped brass. The pressure signs on the brass showed brass flow on the case head including ejector marks on the head and deformed case rim. I kid you not, it felt like I was in a car wreck when I fired it. It took a few seconds till my senses cames back. With that combination, I would not suggest shooting it alot. My AR50, heck I will shoot a 125 rds in an afternoon of fun. But it is not that ik98 stuff either. Nick |

MY buddy showed up with a can of it and his rifle. Like I said, it was not pleasant, it dazed me when I fired it. I shot 5 rds and that was enough for me! I will stick to my reloads and USGI ammo and some Talon stuff. I have talked to some others on the FCSA forums that have encountered IK98 pressure problems. Nick |
| I agree stay away from that stuff. We used linked ammo to test fire at Armalite, and none of it was anywhere near as hot as the ammo mentioned above. I shot some out of my personal gun and damn near got a nose bleed. If anyone has any questions on the ins and outs of the AR50 or its production, or about Armalite period just ask. |
I usually post my image at least once a day. ![]() What can I say, I'm obsessed. Thanks for all the info too, guys. |
