When did the 50cal start to be used as a sniper round?
I know it was used in the MG before, but when did the military start to use it for snipers?

Sometime during the Vietnam war a few rifles were built by armorers. It was basically an experiment to give them something to do. Nothing much came of it then because muzzle brake design was barely an afterthought.

Carlos Hathcock mounted the scope from his sniper rifle on the Browning 50 caliber and the sniper rifle was born. Or at least that what the book says.
