What kind of accuracy can one reasonably expect from an AR50 with surplus and handloaded ammunition?

We've had 50s of all kinds show up at the shoot and I don't think anyone has taken a target with one. The guys from Montana had an AR50, and they seems pretty unhappy by the end of the day. Another guy from Lewiston sold his right after the shoot.

Then again, they may have been poor shots.

I'm pretty sure some of the bolt gun .50 BMG guys have taken a few over the years.  Certain the guy with the Barrett (who prefers that his name is not be mentioned in public for fear his wife will discover he has a Barrett) has NOT connected.   But he is usually feeding it military surplus stuff and aiming at the rock pile rather than the boomers.  Ry has a better idea than I on the AR-50 though.  Ry had his set up very close to them.

I have not shot mine past 500 yards but with IMI TZZ 2000 M33 ball it will hold five shots into 3 to 4 inches at 500 yards.  With Hornady 750 gr. A-Max, H50 BMG powder, CCI primers, and the TZZ match prepped cases I can turn in sub 2 inch 5 shot groups at 500 yards so long as the wind stays calm and I don't muck it up (which is very easy to do).  My best load usually groups about 1.750 inches +- .500 inch.
My AR-50 is a gen. 1 rifle with the bolted together brake and rear mounted stock tension pin.  The trigger has had the factory trigger arm replaced with a Shilen replacement arm (Rem 700?) that got the pull down to 3 pounds from the horrible factory pull.  Scope is a Leupold VXIII LR 8.5-25x in Badger Ordnance Max 50 high rings on top of an ARMS #36 rail mounted on the 15 MOA Armalite base.  The ARMS mount on top of the Armalite mount allows the rear scope ring to be mounted fully behind the Armalite base so the scope sits further back and I don't have to crawl the stock.  It also gets the scope up high enough that the cheek piece can be raised so it clears the bolt handle when loading.
When shooting the AR-50 consistency in shooting position is everything.  You put the rifle in a strain by fitting yourself to the rifle instead of making the rifle fit you and groups open up quickly.

Here is my unproffesional opinion.
I had the opportunity to shoot Gi_Brats AR50 at Gunstock 2003. It is equipped with a Leupold scope IIRC. I shot 3 of his hand loads at 1000 yards.
1 X ring and 2 in the 10 ring.
This was the first time I ever fired an ar50. If his is any indication of their accuracy..I'd buy one in a second.

I have enjoyed great accuracy with my AR50 and Nightforce. Generally about 3/4MOA, often less than 1/2MOA at varioous ranges. I have shot all the way out to 1000 yards and have been very pleased. Much better gun than the gunner.

Is that a left hand model? (drool)

Seems that all of the large distributors are currently out of  the big AR, possibly due to the 60 minutes story.

I was just going to talk about GI_Brat and his son with the AR50. They were doing ok and hitting the X ring.
My AR30 kept them on their toes (IMHO) that 338 Lapua round does the job also.

Just kidding about their toes though.

Edit...They are also Left handed shooters and it was throwing everyone off.........

They must be shitty shots, every AR50 i have seen will hold sub MOA all day long.
