I just bought a barrett 82A1CAL and need to put a scope on it. I was thinking of the super sniper for now and then getting a Leupold later I've got leupolds on other rifles and love them but dont want to spend a 1000 + right now. What scopes do you guys have or recommend?

The SS might last or it might not, just depends on how much attention it got when it was built. If you don't want to spend as much as say a Leupold or Nightforce, try looking at IOR scopes. Another thing also is try looking up Don UT over on Biggerhammer, he usually has some good deals for the guys on the board.

IOR recently has stared having problems with their side focus scopes mounted on 50s.  I've read, and it's true, better to save the cash, and wait, then to throw $100 at a scope that may last 5 shots, or maybe 500.  Either way, your going to be throwing $100 away.

I put a Super Sniper on my AR50 and like it so far with no problems. I also would like to get a Nightforce down the road but didnt have the $ after buying therifle and didnt want to wait to shhot the .50.. When I get the ne scope I will put the SS on another gun so I wont be wasting any money. Also the SS comes with a LIFETIME WARRANTY  so you should be OK as far as breakage..
Good luck!!

Save your money and get the NF. I waited almost 6mo. and do not regret it. It wll be hard but willbe worth the wait.  Watch for deals here and on other boards. I got my NF for 700 because I waited and looked for a deal, and when I finally saved up the cash I got one. 6mo. was long but, I expected to wait even longer.

The great thing about the 82A1 is you can shoot iron sights until you select the scope you want.

I use a Burris Signature 8X-32X-44mm with a Ballistic Mil-Dot Reticle and have had no problems

But for my M82 i was looking into the Elcan 6x48 Optical Sight

I have the Leupold VXIII 8.5-25 LR on mine.  I would recommend either the Leupold Mk 4 8.5-25x or the Nightforce as my first picks.  When I got my scope Leupold did not make a variable Mk 4 and Nightforce was so new on the market that long term longevity had not been established.  While I have not had any trouble with my VXIII it is generally not considered a very good .50 BMG scope.  Maybe because mine is on an AR-50 is the reason I have not had any trouble but VXIII scopes have a history of failing on .50 BMG rifles.
Tasco SS have a very hit and miss reputation.  They might last forever or they might fail after 50 shots.  IMO it is better to get the best optics you can get the first time.  How can you shoot well if your scope is failing and often they do not give obvious signs that things are going south for quite a while.  That ends up in a lot of frustration and wasted money being sent down range trying to figure out why your "rifle won't shoot."

An Elcan...I've never thought of that. I wonder if it would work and hold up?

ATN = Another Terrible Nightmare

For an economy 50 BMG scope check out the Bushnell Elite 3200 10X Tactical.  Barrett puts them on his economy packages.  Down the road get the scope you want.  As for Night Force, I bought into the myth and spent close to $1400 on one.  To be completely honest my Bushnell Elite 4200s (for 1/4 the price) had better brightness and sharper images.  If you're in the market for a high end scope look seriously at US Optics.  They are extremely nice.  However, Are they twice as nice as a Leupold LRT or Mark IV???

Not shure how it will hold up but they list it for the .50

At the shop i got my Berrett they told me about the Elcan for the .50 but i figured i better do a little research first before spending 1,400 on a scope

Thanks a lot guys.Right now I think I'm going to go with the Leupold MK 4 8.5 to 25. I only bought the gun because of the ban, I told my wife I probaly wouldnt even shoot it. But after picking it up from the FFL all I think about now is getting out and shooting it, Its one impressive looking weapon.     THANKS AGAIN

Leupold make pretty nice optics.  For a 50 I would either go with Nightforce NXS, or the high end say us optics or schmidt and bender.  My close friend has a barret 50 with a nightforce and It has held up great.  And to the person who claims that the bushnell is as bright and clear as his nightforce.  I would be sending that nightforce back because theres something wrong with it.
