So a couple of days ago, I gave into temptation and picked up an FDE SCAR 16 from a local LGS. I finally shot it today and I gotta say, it was surprisingly pleasant from a recoil perspective. The blast from the stock muzzle brake was not though. I actually had people come over to table because they thought I was shooting a SCAR 17!

Any recommendations from the hive for a descent replacement? Would a linear brake be good?

I didn't even shoot my scar with the factory brake installed but i did put it on my 11.5 sbr and it wasn't that bad, well compared to the surefire brakes I own at least.

i use a surefire 3p flash hider on my 16 and the recoil is extremely manageable, even more so suppressed.

I shot my 17 yesterday under a cover range after 60 rounds the repeated blasting I had a headache and with plugs and muffs it triggered some annoying tinnitus.  I hope the HPA passes soon or I am putting a flash hider on.

I just replaced my factory brake with a A2 flash hider. Sure, there's more muzzle movement, but the heavy BCG returning into battery pushes the muzzle back down.

Works great no doubt, but the blast is just too much.

I think I may go with a linear brake from Griffin Armament or a flash hider.

Did you notice a difference in blast reduction?

After shooting mine yesterday it got me wondering how much louder the 17 would be!

It really is not the loudness it is the concussion wave.  Shooting without a cover in the open air it is not bad.  It is the confined space that reflects the wave back at you.  The FIL's range I was at is a firing line both benches on both my sides the shooters cleared out and the people two slots over were giving me dirty looks.  Normally my range I lay out prone with no cover and just crank off my rounds no issue.

Yup, meant to say concussion too. I got the same looks, one guy came over and wanted to know what kind of .308 round I was shooting. I told him it was standard M193 5.56 ammo

Absolutely. There's no concussion with the A2 flash hider.

You don't need a linear compensator. Any flash hider will be fine.

What is everyone using on a scar16 cqc?
Form 1 in and waiting, 10" barrel bought and sitting in BIL's safe.
Barrel has the stock FN 3 prong cqc flash hider but I want to change it out.

I've got all kinds of FH's and brakes so what should I put on it?
What the must have muzzle device for a 10" scar16?

Must have muzzle device is the one that mounts the eventual suppressor lol.

i would use the attached flash hider. Brakes on 10 inch guns suck.

My 10" barrel has a Surefire flash hider for my SOCOM suppressor.

if I didn't have a suppressor then I'd just use an A2 since it's short and doesn't have muzzle blast.

I just use the FN three prong flash hider on my 16. The factory brake is nice, as mentioned, until you're bracing against a tree and get a face full of bark after you take a shot.

Thanks for your help, ended up with an A2 I found in my spare parts bin.
