Wouldn't matter, the barrel has a completely different mounting engagement. It has 6 barrel screws instead of 4

If you look at the catalog, there is a 20" barrel (the "long barrel" or "LB") for the 17/17S.

Whether or not we actually see them at distributors is another story.

Hated mine too when configuring my MK20ish 17S - switched to a PRS (and a Lovell Precision adapter) - and haven't looked back.

I might be interested in the 20 inch barrel if it's available separately. Although the gains are probably fairly minimal for my application.
