If I get my 16 inch 17 barrel chopped to 14 inches will the factory gas port insert still work or will I need a different size?

Curious to see who has done this and what if any changes were needed.

Thanks,
Jeff

At the bottom of this page, there is an brief application chart for gas inserts: http://handldefense.com/product/scar-gas-control-jet/.  Since 14" isn't a normal SCAR H barrel length, maybe you would have to go with a selection from either Handl or here: http://hi-desertdog.com/barrel-group.html and experiment until you get reliable cycling and extraction.

There is a guy on FNforum.net that posted about this. He has a 13" barrel and tested several gas port sizes, he found a 1.4mm ran best suppressed and unsuppressed. I would say 1.4mm would be G2G on a 14" barrel given that a 13" runs well with it.

I have a 17S and will be trying different gas port sizes soon to reduce gas blowback with my can.

I got my chopped barrel back from ADCO and it still works well with the factory gas port cut from 16 to 14 inches. I ran some Hornady light through it and you can feel the really slow cycle but it still cycled so I'd imagine the regular full power stuff will be fine.
