I posted this in generaI armory section before seen the FN topic.  I was obviously shunned for my lack of foresight so hopefully this will be the appropriate section.

I have been reading reviews for the SCAR 17 and wanted to know opinions from AR15 SCAR owners or folks who researched the SCAR 17 and the reasons they purchased or did not purchase. I am in the evaluation process and I am looking for some guidance. Thanks very much!

The easiest answer is - because you don't have one so you need one in your collection!

The SCAR17s really has something going for it. G3/FAL/M1A's are all a pain in the a** to scope and rail. The SCAR comes out of the box ready to do anything and it's lighter than most options out there in 7.62.

What is your intended purpose for this rifle?  Battle rifle, SDM, etc.

Either way the SCAR 17s is a sweet shooting battle rifle.  Lightweight, accurate, and reliable.

Buy with confidence FNH makes a great rifle.

Bought a FDE SCAR17 about a year ago.  Don't have too many rounds thru it - maybe 100-150.  It is what it's designed to be . . . a battle rifle.  I have no problem shooting 1.5-2 MOA but not much tighter even off bench.  Never a hiccup as far as feeding or malfunctions.

My criticisms:
-$$$
-a bit heavy
-my FDE is really "tricolor" - upper is one color, lower is a second, the furniture is a third

I put a Leupold HAMR on it.  I love it.

Take a look at the LM&T .308.  The British Army selected LM&T to supply them with their designated marksman rifle.  LM&T beat out the SCAR17, HK417 and several others as well.  New Zealand adopted the LM&T as well.

The Scar 17 is a modern battle rifle that has a lot going for it. It has great ergonomics,it's the lightest optics ready7.62 MBR to date, and accuracy is very good (1 MOA to sub MOA depending on ammo selection/trigger and shooter ability) as well as an adjustable folding stock. The downsides are an abysmal factory trigger, proprietary mags (bastards!!) and a chincy stock latch on the  earlier models (supposedly resolved).  All in all it fills the MBR role quite nicely. I love mine.

Ive had one for about a year now and I'm still not sure if I love it or not.
Its got some downsides.  Its a bit long, tall, and front heavy for a 16".  I dont like the stock at all, the grip could be a lot better, the aftermarket SCAR version of the Ergo grip which I run on my ARs doesn't fit the SCAR as well, I dont care for the poly lower, and it could use a better trigger.

Dispite all my complaints though, its a fantastic battle rifle or mid-range marksman rifle.

Right now im debating upgrading some of these parts or replaceing the rifle with an LWRC REPR.
Im leaning towards upgrading the SCAR with a UBR stock and Geissele trigger, I'll get the REPR later
