The early PS90 models had an open bolt design.  Are these hard to find or is there a serial number range that these were produced through?  Anyone looking to sell?

Cheers

I don't think they ever were open bolt. At any rate the ATF would not allow them to sell an open-bolt semi auto rifle in the US. Open Bolt semi-auto Macs were clamped down on long before the PS90 ever hit the market.

agreed, the p90 uses straight blowback/closed bolt

Have you ever noticed that when people list the PS90 for sale they specifically state closed bolt design.  As I understand it the early ones got through with open bolts and  yes the FEDs clamped down on it quickly but they do exist.

sorry but the P90 and PS90 were designed and built as Closed Bolt weapons.

There may be some obscure prototype open bolts but there were never any released to the public.

As of 1980/81 no more open bolt firearms were allowed to be produced for civi purchase.
That's why open bolt macs at gun shows go for a premium, cause they are easy to convert to full auto.

Correct, the P90, as i remember, was always designed to be a closed bolt system. The p90 was designed to be a low heat weapon, making an open bolt design to prevent cook-offs unnecessary.

the only open bolt semi auto's I'm aware of were the mac-10 types, but they were taken off the market back in the day because they were considered too easily convertable to full auto.

This is what i remember from reading anyway, if you can find an example of an open bolt p90 i will be amazed, as i don't believe any exist.

Agreed, there are no open-bolt PS90's anywhere and never have been.
The earlier models had a different trigger pack that are easily modified ILLEGALLY to full auto. For some reason people really want them, just a matter of time until some bozo ends up in jail for doing something stupid with one.

I've heard about the earlier model trigger packs.  Were they a different color?

early model trigger packs came in diff colors....

the part that was later removed from later trigger packs was the safety sear...basically a trip lever operated by the bolt allowing the hammer to follow through if the gun was configured in a full auto config.  FN removed the extra part later.

mine has the early trigger pack on it.

The part that counts is the hammer.
Early hammers were black and the later versions were grey.
That's why you see trigger packs for sale and people asking for the color of the hammer or a pic.

also the safety sear.....that is triggered by the bolt going forward and allows the hammer to go forward after the bolt is in battery.

mine has the black hammer, and the black safety sear as well

serial number in the 40K range

They changed the safety sear color?
I have never seen any other color but black.
I do know that the angle of the hammer is what counts.

Supposedly my ps90 is the model with the early trigger pack. I never knew the difference(s) but now I guess I'll
have to take it out of the safe and look at the hammer and safety sear color.

I had the "privilege" of shooting a p90 back in the Fall. It was a blast! I fired 100 round and wished I'd had more.

I finally dug mine out and checked.  My rifle has the black hammer & safety sear.

Serial number in the 57K range.
