SCAR-H 30 days out give or take, depending on who you talk to.
16.5" barrels with no indication that 20" or CQB length barrels will be available. Is there a domestic producer who could step up and make the barrels? Licensing issues? |

you know, that long ass barrel on the scar L is pretty much the only thing keeping my from buy one(at this point tuff to SBR) but with add on another 4 inches to the all ready long as shit barrel and its going to look like the dumbest rifle i have ever seen,
im sure it works great and having a shorter handguard cuts weight but gotta say, the long ass barrel short hand guard look like shit immagin a 20 inch rifle with car handguars retarded |

Parts necessary to complete the barrel are not available from FN, like the barrel extension and gas block, and it's not economically viable to reverse engineer and produce them for the very small volume of potential sales. If the parts were available it would seem relatively straightforward to get a barrel made. SCAR should have a longer handguard on all versions. |

I don't suffer from this since I I use a "Chicken choker" grip, but I know guys who like to use stubbies or Magpul AFG's who would agree with you. It seems like it would have been simple to extend the handguards over the gas block and either make the sight integral, or rail mountable. I understand the decision was based on two points: 1) That would increase the weight of the weapon and pull the CG forward 2) having the sight integral to the gas bloack means the sight goes with the barrel, and when changing barrels, you would be getting a sight already zeroed for the barrel length of the interchange barrel. I'm skeptical of point 2, as it seems windage adustments would still need to be made. Also, if you use an optic, you'd need to rezero teh optic (though if it's an RDS, you could use the irons to zero the RDS, if the iron's zero was dependable. This came from a SCAR armorer at Crane, so take it for what it's worth. |

1) That would increase the weight of the weapon and pull the CG forward 3" of aluminum rail weighs nothing. Yup, I don;t disagree.... but this was the reason given to me. Like I said... not an issue for me. But if there is a "next" version of the SCAR, I wouldn't be surprised to see this development. |
