I was wondering why the FN SCAR has 3 different colors of FDE Is it because of the different materials taking the color different

because of the different materials taking the color different Besides who cares? It's a battle rifle not a fashion statement. Yet, every time a picture of a Colt 6920 is posted people scream bloody murder about how for 1500 bucks the finish should be perfect. People

Yeah - I just hate how all that nasty black sooty stuff messes up my shiny oiled surfaces. And don't get me started on how the brass leaves smudges on my shell deflector! I may just dry fire my guns so they always look purty ![]() HA HA - great reply to this silliness in my opinion The black does not match either (judging by the pics) My SCAR is at least 4 different colors. Who cares - it runs great. I bet you guys (that are complaining about the color) have pretty hair too. I'm kidding of course, but it seems a bit silly to use the color the SCAR is available in as a deciding factor. I know, I know - for the price it should find the target and aim for you too. |

I have an FDE on the way. Should be here Thursday. I dont particularly care about the finish. But I am weird anyway. I think the SCAR is a beautiful rifle when pretty much everyone else thinks it is ugly as hell.
I just hope it shoots well. Going to do a direct side by side comparing it to my Colt 6720. Curious to see which is easiest to shoot well. And how dirty they get. I have always hated cleaning AR's. Hoping the SCAR is a bit easier. |

Round for round your Colt will be full of carbon and grime long befor you notice it on the SCAR. You will have to clean the piston area once and a while buts its very easy to get to and take down. |

if i ever buy a $300,000 brand new Lamborghini with an off color inconsistent multi tone paint job thats all over the place, ill be ok with it, cause it still runs good...is that basically the thought process here? ya ya guns get dirty oily scratched up, im ok with that, if it runs its good, but there is no reason for a new gun not to have a well done finish out of the factory, especially an expensive FN gun why didnt they go with black in the first place? |

Because black was not specified per SOCOM requirements. Very few things are "naturally" black. Weapons are painted prior to deployment (SOCOM). The FDE is a "base" color. Black gives off a higher IR signature. These were made available to civies by the kindness of FNH as opposed to HK. Don't like the finish......don't buy it, buy the ACR instead. |

You compare a Lamborghini to a SCAR and then ask us about our thought process when it comes to the SCAR colors not matching - wow - seriously For me the color is a non issue - think of it as camouflage (so I bought a SCAR) The answer seems simple - why complain, just don't buy one. I don't like the Lamborghini - I'm not going to complain about them, I'm just not going to buy one. As far as why the didn't go black.... same reason it has a reciprocating charging handle. Why ask why, just buy something you like and get to the range. |

Although I want a pretty uber tactical gun just like the next guy I cannot beleive that this is what most internet gunslingers look for most.
Black AR15's are sexy with rails, lights, magpuls stocks etc... but people should really worry more about function. The SCAR colors work as far as camo is concerned. When people paint their guns dont they use multiple colors? The SCAR blends in well in many enviornments and you dont have to spray a $5 can of Krylon on top of it. |
