| anyone know when the 308 scar is supposed to come out? i had heard rumors they would be released a couple of months after the 556 scar came out |
|
The SCAR-H will be available to civvies as semi-only, but when is not confirmed yet. They have not even confirmed when the SCAR-L will begin domestic production. The 200 SCAR-Ls out there right now are imported Herstal guns hence the PWS-type muzzle brake rather than a conventional FH. There will be another 800 SCAR-Ls imported, but after that the info gets very thin.
Until FNUSA begins making these here, nothing is firm. |

I'm a little confused about how a conventional FH would prevent the parts from being imported. The PWS isn't pinned on, it is threaded. The PWS is american made, as is many other conventional flashhiders. It is my understanding that the SCAR was imported as a 'parts kit' and assemble here in the US with enough american made parts to classify it as 'American Made', thereby avoidng 922R problems. FN is hoping to release approximately 200 SCAR-L per month until the end of the year. Hopefully, after that it will totally manufactured domestically and the Scar-H semi will be introduced. |

FN's Ken Flood (aka FNMAN) over at FNForum has stated the civilian version of the SCAR-H is the SCAR-17S and is slated for late '09 early '10 release. FNH USA SCAR-17S |
| I asked that same question to the guys at my gun shop, who had gone to a dealer show a week or two before hand. I was told due to the current unrest and a possible shift of the troops to a different front the heavys probably wouldn't be out this year They might be out late next year :( though. |

I have a SCAR L , nice gun. 922(r) applies to all imported, "non-sporting" firearms.[/quote You cannot import non-sporting firearms, however "suitable or readily adaptable to sporting purpose" is completely up to ATF Import Branch to determine. SCAR L was approved for importation as a "sporting" firearm despite the pistol grip and folding stock. Shows you the subjectivity at play in Form 6 approvals, but also the enormous power that FN wields since they manufacture 70% of US military firearms. THis can also be seen with the PS90 and FS2000 as well. 922r applies to the modification of an imported "sporting" firearm in to a configuration prohibited from importation. Since the SCAR L is largely already in it's military configuration, there's really no need for modification, so while 922r applies technically, it has no practical limitation. |

We do not expect the SCAR Heavy until late in 2009. It will use a Proprietary magazine. Only the FN magazine will work! Thank you! Bob Ailes Customer Support Manager 703-288-3500 ext. 122 [email protected] |
