So I have bought a brand new SPR A1. I was hoping on bening able to add a 10 round mag to it. So I contacted FN. Here was their response: We are looking at the Hi Cap magazine for these. It would be at least a year before anything would be available. Bob Ailes Customer Support Manager 703-288-3500 ext. 122 [email protected] All I can say is this is not cool. Looks like I will have to save up for machined trigger guard and AICS magazine. Oh well, let the penny pinching begin on my part. Chris |
That's the same dipshit (Bob) I talked to the other day about my short stroking FS2000. His high tech fix for my problem was "get some Winchester white box and try that." This was after telling him I'd tried several name brand factory and surplus ammo that ALL function in my AR, Galil, HK, Mini 14, etc..without even a bobble. That rifle should eat any decent ammo I put in it. I thought maybe I called Bi-Mart by mistake with the level of expertise their Customer Support Manager displayed. Where can any of us apply for that job? Everyone here is a freaking arms expert compared to that douche. |

FNH USA has never advertized a hi cap magazine for thier SPR bolt actions...so you being disaappointed about this only reflects that you did no research beforehand. They are guilty of nothing in this matter. When i chose my A5, I chose a floor plate model (as do federal Agencies, and the U.S. Military) As there is no real need for a removable magazine at all on this type of weapon period....in a real situation 1 to 2 shots are fired at best. In a military context, if you emply your M40A3 or M24 while staying in one spot, you have stayed too long at the party(and made yourself prone to being located and delt with) Of course It is in vogue with the mall ninjas clique -"Duuude no bananna mag on your precision zombie bolt gun? Soooo bogus. |
You mean the CS rep didn't squat down and shit out the 10 round mag you were 'hoping' for?? What an asshole! Good on you for calling out that fuckhead personally! |
| I wanted more than 4 rounds in a mag for my spr and searched and found the new CDI product that uses the AI 5 or 10 round magazines. These are probably the best mag used for a bolt gun. I reload and can OAL of 2,875 with no problems. I could probably seat out a little more. You can find it on snipershide. It is cheaper than the bottom metal for a remington. I had the prototype and the finished product he makes now was based on my gunsmith feedback and them working together to make a great piece of gear. |
Correct-answer. |
+1 THANK YOU! |

Ok: 1st- I did NOT slam the company or the sales rep. I am very happy with this rifle and its performance. I have a PBR, FS2000, and PS90 as well as a couple of FN pistols. 2nd- I emailed FN 3 months ago about an extended mag and was told it is in the works and perhaps before the end of the year. (research- going straight to the source) 3rd- The reason for my desire for ten round mag: I like to shoot 3 round groups at 200, 300, 400 yards. A ten round mag allows me to accomplish without changing a mag or reloading. I am by no means a mall ninja, I just like to shoot to the best of my ability. 4th- I find it frustrating to be told one thing and low and behold it takes an extra year for an extended mag to be developed. Thank you all for your support. |
It's my understanding that the reason for a DBM on this type of rifle is to be able to change ammo types quickly if your mission should change. But I don't shoot for a living anymore. |
Bob went out of his way to take care of the two problems I had. Everything was handled expertly. Same story for many others. He is good at his job. |
|
I had a question regarding the availability of FS2000 standards, and Bob gave me a complete break down of pricing, availability, stocking dealers, and dealer networks....within 2 hours. He also sent me pictures of the FS2000 standard, along with clarifying a bunch of my questions regarding the rail. The problem is NOT with Bob at FN. He even told me to reply to his email with my address if I wanted some free FN gear (which I didn't, but I wish I did now ). FN is up there with the best customer service that I have come across. I'm sorry that his ANSWERS didn't meet your EXPECTATIONS, but he did what he could, promptly, and professionally. |
|
This is basically why manufacturers won't give release dates and info. on upcoming products anymore......because when they don't make the realese date, or have to change the original plan, people start bitching. Based on my experiences, FNH has some of the best CS out there. Bob A. has always been more than helpful. |

Well maybe I should cut ol' Bob some slack. In his defense he did call me back promptly. He was courteous and he did offer further help if needed. Guess I just had a little sand in my 'gina over knowing I'm going to have to send my rifle in. Was hoping he was going to say all I had to do was wipe off my trailer hitch and it would start working fine. lol! On a positive note, I did get my free C-More sight from FN the other day. |
I agree, I called Bob over the last few years on a couple of issues regarding a few differen FN products I own and I got great service from him, he bent over backwards to help me out. While a 10 round mag for a bolt gun would be interesting it's not something that really is necessary in my mind. I just picked up some extra 4-rounders and am happy with that. I own the 16" PBR and the 24" XP PBR they shoot 1/2" at 100 yards and 1/2" at 200 yards. For factory rifles this is more then enough to make this old Marine happy. I'd much rather FNH spent they're efforst producing the SCAR then taking time out to make a 10 round mag for a bolt gun. Something tells me there is not that much demand for a 10 round (or larger) mag for a bolt gun. Why people insit that manufactures bend to thier every whim is beyond me. How long has Remmington been making DBM REM700's? Do they have 10 or 20 rounders yet? |
|
FN said one thing but then they had other priorities to come up, I do not think Bob lied when he said that they were developing one... Police officers might need a 10 rounder or something too. But maybe they are trying to release or fix another issue before they get to that. I do not think anyone in CS will say "Yes we were working on it, but more important stuff came up." That would make the customer angry to say the least. I like the FNAR - has 5,10,15, and 20 round mags. Can't beat that. but its not a bolt rifle. |

Bob Ailes has personally stepped in and achieved resolution to a MAJOR problem for a friend of mine. He has responded to three different requests from me within two hours of my contacting him. I can appreciate the difficulties he has to endure, being told one thing from R&D/production on one day and then another thing on a different day. It is because of Bob's response to my (and others') questions and problems that I have purchased three different handguns from FN after finding a neat little PS90 for way too little money at a pawn shop. If I ever get the chance to meet him FTF, I'll shake his hand a buy him the adult beverage of his choice. |
| I personally know Bob. He isnt a jerk by any means. He has alot of customers to satisfy so dont get bent if he is short and to the point. If you call him WITHOUT AN ATTITUDE, he will help you. Its pretty sad when people who dont know their ass form a hole in the ground try to trash talk him. FN is one of the few Military weapons manufactuers who make an EFFORT to bring military weapons to the Civilian Market. They are good people. |
I can only guess, but it would seem that ALL FN bolt action production and development has been temporarily put on hold to facilitate Winchester's reintroduction of the Model 70. The 10-round magazine for FN SPR's and PBR's was probably never a top priority for them, so it's probably way back on the back burner. As you're planning to do, go with the CDI system and AI mags. You'll be better off in the long run anyway... |
I'm happy you have a friend. Nobody said he was a jerk. I said he was a dipshit. (I apologized for it.) He just came off as less than knowledgeable about the product in question. I've since spoke with him twice more about the issue with my rifles WITHOUT AN ATTITUDE. I was always polite to him. I'm sure he did the best he could. The last time I spoke to him I asked if I should send the rifles back and he said I could if I wanted but suggested to just keep using both rifles on the high gas setting instead and that it wouldn't hurt anything. I was rather surprised at this advice. The manual clearly states that under normal circumstances you should not have to use the high gas setting and it would cause excessive wear on the rifle. He also gave me the number of a fella that lives in my state who might be able to help. That guy suggested using sandpaper on the piston and gas cylinder. This is a rifle with less than 300 rounds through it. It wasn't hardly dirty but I cleaned the parts (not with sandpaper) and it malfunctioned same as before. So I called FN back and requested a different service rep. What a difference. He listened to my description of the problem without interrupting me and said that there is definitely something wrong and that I needed to send both rifles back for repair. Done. I'm sure Bob is a great guy. As I said he was polite and returned my first call promptly. I've dealt with other gun manufacturers in the past and usually they have a service tech available that has obvious deep knowledge of the firearm you are calling about. I didn't get this feeling from him. More of a salesman feeling. Again, nothing against Bob so don't get your panties in a wad. My first post was made right after dealing with this frustrating problem over $4000 worth of rifles that have multiple problems and don't function and I already said my judgment of him was a bit harsh. Not inaccurate but harsh. I'm glad you guys have had such a wonderful experience with FN. Mine was different and I simply accurately relayed it as so. Hopefully they will redeem themselves. I'll know when the rifles get back. So far these have been some of the most expensive rifles I've purchased and the most problematic I've ever purchased too. And I get to pay to insure and ship them back. You would think they could send an RMA for $4000 worth of plastic rifles. I have seen better service. |
