| Im looking into building a nice "sniper" rifle in a .308 caliber. My local gunshop can get me an a-1 or a-3, but not much else from FNH. What do you guys think about these guns? I've looked around some and cant find comparisons/reviews or even discussion about the guns quality. Are they worth the money? Whats the difference between a1,a2,a3,a5? Thanks for any help guys! |

I just bought one in December. It's the A1A which is the 20" fluted barrel version with drop box magazine. You can find all the info at www.fnhusa.com. So far I've only shot it at my local indoor range at 100 yards. I was able to get 0.45" 3-shot groups with it after a while. It came with a factory test target that measured 0.65" with Federal Match 168 gr. I'm still trying different factory ammo as I don't reload. I think you won't be disappointed with the performance, but if mony is an issue, you can find the same performance in rifle that are $500-$700 cheaper. I paid $1550 for mine and I've seen it as high as $1750 at different dealers and wesites. Good luck with watever you decide to get. |

If you go to buy one, thoroughly inspect it first. I think FN had some real quality problems last year with the closure of the USRAC plant and the move to VA. I bought their top of the line A3G and it arrived with a receiver that looked like it was finished with a belt sander. FN said it needed replaced and it would take 30 days. Now 3 months later, they are telling me it will be another 60 to 90 days minimum as they have no inventory. They could not give me any update on the manufacturing status, nor even admit where (who) was making their guns now. They are leaving the replacement issues to the repair center in MO (Browning), which isn't good since that repair depot wanted to simply 'polish and refinish' the parkerized and specially bedded action. I spoke with the selling dealer today, and he is receiving some limited quantities of the standard rifles, however he is getting varied serial number lots with some going back before mine from early last year. The A3G is completely backordered, and seeing as he is getting older guns in the new shipments doesn't sound reassuring. Do some more research here and on some of the sniper sites to find alot of problems and returned rifles to FN. Makes me wonder where all these returns are going, and more so, how many actions/parts are being recycled due to the demise of their CT manufacturing ? |
| I have an 03 dated FN SPR A1 and its going to the range this weekend so i can shoot some groups. Last time at the range was to sight in the scope and i was using walmart special winchester super x, getting a little over 1 moa at 100yrds with lead tip hunting ammo, so im not really worried about getting under 1 moa with match ammo. |

I have a A1a, 20" fluted with DBM .308 I put a 5.5-22x50mm Nightforce NSX on top and can shoot .75moa all day with Hornaday Light Mag 150gr. With match ammo the gun is capable of .5moa, I am not consistently Quality is excellent on mine. The McMillan stock is the shnizzle 1. It aint light. 2. I cant find extra 4 rd FNH mags or any source for larger capacity aftermarket mags, yet

| I recently got ann SPR and love it. Mine is the 20" fluted barrel, internal mag, and A3 McMillan stock. It is a heavy gun. I will be using mine for precision shooting and deer hunting here in South Central PA. In my opinion FN makes the best guns out. Heck they make the M16s for the miltary as well as the M249 SAW, M240G, and on and on. |

Allenst, I sent you an im about your trouble with the repair facility. Long story short, those guys will screw you over if you let them. Give Bob Ailes (at FN customer service) a call and he will straighten things out for you and get you squared away. I have a A3G and am quite happy with it. Even though it is over 2k, for the money, you would be hard pressed to find a better deal. I have yet to find another rifle on the market that comes already glass bedded in a fully adjustable macmillan stock and has a 0.5 moa guarantee that is under $2.5k. Add in the fact that the barrel is chromed lined and won't need to be replaced 5000 rnds down the road, and you have a winner I my opinion. |
