Has anyone used the Vltor A5 buffer (std buffer) on their shrike? Did it work?
If not I plan on using the buffer tube at least and make a custom spacer if it doesn't .
Edit: I'm not sure of the lenght of the A5 buffer tube verse a rifle stock tube, I'm thinking its a little shorter or will the shrike rifle spacer work?
I'm sure i'll have a 100 more questions when all the parts start arriving.
Thanks JR

Hehehehehehehehe

Sorry I am giddy over a good friend who spent all his money on his shrike, that he cannot afford to shoot it.  He let me borrow it for a while since he knows I will shoot it.

I tried a heavy buffer on my lower and it did not cycle properly, so i put in a standard carbine buffer and after a little break in period, it is now running great.   Did this all yesterday.

I love it.  He may not get it back anytime soon.

OMG my head hurts now, if I've read that correctly the V5 buffer will not work and could damage the bolt carrier, I just bought my upper from Ruben today he kept saying all I needed was a H3 buffer...
what would you recommend I do?
I really want to use the A5 buffer tube, I'm looking for 650+/- rpm, would the ares spring, H3 buffer (I have a spikes T3 buffer) and a custom spacer 0.000"+/- work (I havent measured a V5 buffer tube verse a std buffer tube, so I'm guessing starting off with the differance)

Here is another old thread: http://www.ar15.com/archive/topic.html?b=6&f=23&t=355615

I had posted there that I got 609RPM w/ the Vltor A5 and standard Vltor buffer.
You need to get a feel for the various ammo in regards to how much force is required to strip.  I had a large batch of surplus brass cased South African 5.56 which requires more force to strip from the links than domestic 223/5.56.  The Vltor A5 had issues trying to strip it from the links while it strips domestic 223/556 easily.
This may be the case w/ steel cased stuff.  I don't know as I've only fired brass through my Shrike.

Again, since I fear another broken carrier, I didn't shoot much with the Vltor A5 since the standard buffer is heavier than an H2 which I did break a carrier with.
I know many swear by heavier buffers so maybe the heat treatment is better now.  I don't know.

Using domestic 223/556 my Enidine works in the A5 tube:

the middle buffer/spring in the picture is that the Vltor A5?
guessing the top spring is the shrike, correct?
