I am considering buying a lower on the EE that has been modified to accept a lightning link . Here is the text from the ad:

The Bushmaster is machined to accept a Lightning Link, has absolutely no affect on regular operation, it is just a small clearance cut at the back of the fire control area - see pics.

I know that there are some instances where modifcations to recievers that host conversion devices result in those receivers becoming either married to the conversion device or being considered machine guns in their own after the device is removed. However, I am relatively ignorant about LL modified lowers-  I want to make sure I don't 'get caught up in anything' but at the same time, would like to take advantage of a good price- especially since I know an RLL could be an affordable way to go FA with the AR-15 platform (and I am considering going fa, though probably with an RDIAS or R-lower about 7 years down the road).

Basically, my question is: Is the modified lower pictured above legal for me to possess?

You can remove as much material as you want from the lower receiver legally, as long as an M16 auto sear cannot be installed.

Most manufactures remove as little material as necessary to costs and machine time to a minimum.

Unless the material that you are removing is a small sear pin hole...they frown upon that material being removed.
