Hey I wanted to ask you guys a question on those Shrike Uppers. They come in 2 versions one with the F/A bolt (set up as a host upper) and one with a dedicated semi auto bolt. Question is since most of the uppers out there come with the F/A bolt would it still be legal to put on a standard semi auto AR lower if you wanted to just shoot semi auto? I'm thinking this would still be treated the same as any new military semi auto rifle out there such as the clones that come with F/A bolts in there. The controlled part is the "trigger pack/lower" or would this fall into NFA territory with having a host upper on a semi auto AR lower? |

Sig, Thanks for the info just wanted to make sure on these. Also I saw an ad not too long ago where the seller stated you had to show proof of NFA ownership before he could ship you the upper. I always thought that was strange on these. ![]() Some companys just want a copy of the form 4 for shipping anything with FA parts to cover thier asses. Its a non issuse and legal to own. Even if it had a short barrel you could still put the upper on a pistol AR and be legal. |

The barrel might have been shorter than 16". Which would be the makings of a SBR. I've yet to see a shrike come with anything but a 16". But like sig said, most of the compaines just want to cover their ass on the bolt, so ask for a F4/FFL to ship it. I have never seen one in person. I just thought since the AAR-Ares Automatic Rifle upper comes in other barrel lengths like 12.5”, 14.5”, 16.25” and 20” That the other uppers could be that way too. |
Since the Shrike comes with a quick-change barrel system, the barrel length is pretty flexible. I believe the "standard" barrel was the 16" but you could order your upper with any length you wanted. Of course, it's been quite a few years since I placed the order.

But Ares hadn't released he AAR upper at the point they had stopped taking the shrike orders, and I haven't heard of anyone being given the option to get anything other then the standard upper, which came with a 16" upper. I know the other barrels will work with it, but just going off this example. I've been toying with the idea of ordering an AAR in a railed model with a 12.5" upper, and then changing out the parts from my beltfed to the railed and short barrel. Just can't pull the trigger on a 2nd upper that would cost me as much as a MAC.
