I'm curious about the costs of acquiring a full auto
AR Platform rifle. From my understanding at the moment the only way I can do this is to buy a registered A1 lower and then mate it to an upper. Is this incorrect? All I'm really looking for is a full auto AR style rifle (Specifically a 11.5" upper). From my understanding DIAS and lightning links couldn't be registered, so the only way was the lower. Thanks for any help :) Edit - Well , it looks like there ARE registered DIAS available, but the cost seems to be significantly higher than just a m16 itself. I assume i'd be best off with just buying a M16 and doing the right paperwork for the SBR upper? How long would it normally take for the paperwork on a MG transfer, SBR upper and supressor? |

You have several choices. 1) Factory Colt M16 - approx $14-20K 2) Registered receiver gun (converted AR15) - approx $9-10K 3) Registered drop in auto sear (RDIAS) - approx $12-14K 4) Registered Lightning Link (RLL) - approx $7-8K Subguns Sturmgewehr ETA; machine gun status trumps all other law ie; you can put any length barrel on it you want, no SBRing needed. Transfers are running approx 14 weeks no matter whether it's a MG, suppressor DD, etc. |

Basically once you own a MG, you can put anything you want on it. No "mating" required. So you can put a brand new Colt M4 upper assembly on an old 1973 Colt M16A1 lower receiver. You can also change out the fire control group if you want and put a smooth two-stage trigger in there, change out the stock, receiver extension, etc.
Good luck! |
