They were designed to work with the old Colt SP1 rifles. It needs to have a SP1 style cut in the bolt carrier and also a low shelf lower receiver in order to work.

Bushmaster was the largest-selling brand that would fit RLL and RDIAS without modification.  I've also used DPMS, Colt (SP1 and Sporter II), Sendra, and (with some fitting) Olympic Arms, Essential Arms J-15, and (with some mods) Cavalry Arms polymer lowers. I haven't even tried to keep up with the flood of newer manufacturers, since I'm already equipped.

I bought a RLL in a Bushmaster host.  The original owner didn't use it much and he set it up long before the KNS LL Protector.  After installing the Protector, it wouldn't function.  I had to have some relief work done.  With out the Protector in the unmodified BM lower, the end of the fire control opening and the end of the takedown pocket would drive the sides of the link together.  It would still function, but I'm sure over time, the bending in and out would have fatigued the link.  Eventually it would have broken, leading to a costly fix.  Or worse yet, a break through the serial #.  Here is a picture of an unmodified and relieved Bushmaster lowers.

I also had a Colt 9mm lower have the relief work done.

Luckily my host gun came with an original SP1 carrier.  I had a couple semi auto carriers modified to use with the LL.  The critical parts is having .380" from the rear of the carrier to the trip area.  This is a photo of the trip area of one of the semi carriers I had modified.

Here is the 9mm bolt.
