so i took my 10.5 out yesterday and dropped 5 mags of xm193 thru it. It ran like a sewing machine not a single problem. The DIAS didnt give me any trouble. So today I decide to go play a little more. I go and pick up 200 rounds of remington 223 (they were out of the xm193). The first mag fires fine and then the gun completly stops working.
I fire the first round and look in the chamber and the spent case has not ejected. The spent case is not hanging out the chamber its still straight on the inside but the next round has almost completly entered the chamber. I figure that i have a bad meg so I grab another. Bang, same problem. It did the same thing with every mag I tried. Broke the rifle down and there isnt anything out of place. Do yall think its just the fact that the rifle just doesnt like the ammo I fed it or does it sound like a bigger problem. |

Sounds like short stroking. This happens to me as well with Remington UMC and Wolf.
Do this as a test... Put one round in the mag, chamber it and fire. Does the bolt catch engage the BCG and lock it back? If not then you're definitely short stroking. The only way I know of to prevent this from happening is one, don't buy weak ammo like UMC and Wolf, two use a lighter buffer (i.e. standard carbine buffer), or three use a sound suppressor. You have to find the right balance for your gun. Mine is 11.5" commando upper using a H buffer and a sound suppressor. Runs like a champ. If I took the suppressor off and loaded up UMC or Wolf, I'd probably have to put a standard carbine buffer in to get it to run. HTH! |
| If the old case is still in the chamber, it may be that you are having extractor problems. My 11.5" upper did the same thing. I changed the spring and added the little rubber donut to the extractor spring and it works real good now. It's a cheap fix and I still get to use my standard carbine buffer. |
| ok i took it out today. With the 10.5 on it i put a single round in the mag and fired it. The bolt locked back but the casing did not eject. It was just sitting in the receiver. Did this five times then I got annoyed and snapped my 14.5 upper on there and it ran fine. So what do I need just a stronger extractor spring? |

Increasing dwell time might fix this as well. |

If not try the BCG from the 14.5 upper to help identify/eliminate possibilities. |

Quoted: Its got a standard H buffer in it... I used the same bolt in both uppers. If you have a heavier one I'd be curious to see what happens when you pop that in. The longer you delay extraction, the more time there is for chamber pressure to reduce, aiding extraction. |

I have an 10.50 LMT w factory semi carrier....
It ran 855/193 no problem but didn't like American Eagle or other 223....It would FTE and shortstroke... I went to a carbine buffer and have not looked back. It eats everything i feed it. probably 5-6K through it.. Try that....YMMV |

| yup the remington wont cycle but the m193 runs fine. Ill grab a stronger extractor spring and a different buffer and give it a try. I would simply run only m193 through it but i worry that as the weapon breaks in it grow to not want to cycle that either. Thanks for all the help guys Ill keep ya posted. |
