Original H&R's are forged as they were made mil spec for the military during the Vietnam war. You will run across some that were demilled and remanufactured by C2's. I have a Stemple made (remade) gun that runs like a scalded dog with anything I feed it. All the ones I have seen lately for sale on the boards are Stemple guns. He marked the receivers on the grip boss with a real small stamp. HTH

There probably are a coupla hundred transferable H&Rs in the NFA Registry, but almost all are rewelds (receivers that were demilled by saw-cutting, then welded back together by C2s like Stemple and Norrell).

H&R made M16s for military contracts (which do not go into the Registry) but AFAIK never won and LE or .gov agency contracts (which do go in the Registry). So the only uncut originals are there are a handful of demo guns which may have been registered, plus the museum and toolroom M16s that were sold off when H&R went bankrupt.

A well-done reweld can give long and good service, but if you're seriously concerned about cast vs. forged, you prolly should stay away from rewelds. A piece of alloy which has been chopped and then welded back together will never be as strong as an uncut forging or even a casting (at least, that's what John Norrell told me).

Actually, federal .gov acquisitions don't go into the registry, either - because they're also owned by the United States government.  Only non-federal governmental entities get listed in the NFRTR (state agencies, and non-federal LE).

This is my auction H&R M16 and M14. I don't think many people would use an original for a shooter.

Yes it is. I have a small H&R NFA collection. I also have a Reising 55, Handi Gun(AOW) and M4 survival rifle(SBR).

Tgus, that is one of the nicest M14 stocks I've ever seen.  My H&R is kinda ratty but it came with a wooden handguard and M1 butt pad (not the flippy one), I've been told it is original but also told otherwise.  Serial number is 851XX, can you say for sure what kind of stock/handguard it should have?  It was an issued gun, not pre-production model.

Thanks my M14 came from the H&R auction. It is unfired and if I remember correctly the serial is in the 1.5 million range. I can't really help on yours. I would assume it should have the flip up butt plate. M14s are not something I know a ton about.
