I attended a local shoot hosted by a fellow Arfcommer last Saturday, and took my M16 along. The last time that it had been fired was at a previous shoot with the same group of people, and they'd each provided their own ammo and uppers at that time. I let the host of the shoot use my M16 first. He inserted a magazine, charged the rifle, and proceeded to move the selector to the "AUTO" position. As he did so, the rifle fired a burst. Luckily, the muzzle was pointed in a safe direction, and no one was hurt. We immediately unloaded the rifle, pivoted it open, and investigated. The problem turned out to be a blown primer wedged under the rear of the trigger/disconnector area. I was thankful that I'd brought my complete armorer's kit, and had to remove the grip and selector to remove the primer. It ran like a top for the rest of the evening. Obviously, there had been some questionable ammo fired through it at the last shoot, and I just failed to notice the blown primer stuck down under everything. |

DPMS I've experienced the opposite, where debris was under the front of the trigger, so it would not fire. Maybe an enterprising manufacturer (billet lowers probably) should slightly revise the interior space for the fcg in the lower with an aim to prevent these kind of malfunctions. |
No. It was factory ammo, but I don't remember the brand. Myself, I shoot Lake City XM193 exclusively, but I can't stand to turn people away because they have mags full of something other than Lake City ammo.
