I was told a particular AR 614 rifle with the serial of 406,000 was built in '74.  this seems a small # for a late date, or do they jump due to model?

Thanks for the gracious bump.  & nice 16a1.

I'm at the bottom of the tacked thread

I got info from the seller & will get a copy of the original transfer from colt in '74 so that Might be the year of manufacture.  It's just that in reading info from various sources including the sticky, mid 70s m16s were in the millions but this "AR" is @ 400K

just wondering if it was sitting at Colt for 5 yrs.

Colt jumped around with the numbers.  Most of the transferrable M16A1 are in the 9 million range while the M16A2s are in the 8 million range.

Looked at the my rifle  today (waiting for paperwork) it appears to have black paint over the front face of the magwell?

Some really interesting "early" parts.  round front sight post,  and both the rear site apertures appear to be the same size, one is marked "L".

any Ideas on any of this?
