I am in the market for a registered receiver, and I can't find any info on which types are large hole or small hole.
Are most of the large hole variety, and do most people get those converted to small hole.
Thanks for any info in advance

If you are speaking of the pivot holes that mount the upper to the lower receiver...

Small hole is the milspec for M16s, and was also used on all clone AR15 receivers. Large hole was developed by Colt for their SP1 AR15s. So Colt semi AR15s that were converted to full-auto are large-pin; all other brands should be small (milspec) pin.

Many of the Colt SP RRs have been converted to milspec small hole, but most are still large-pin. It is easy and cheap enough to get converted if you decide to buy one.

I am looking to pick up a RR sometime this year. Don't want a safe queen, would definitely be shot frequently.
I have seen where the large hole RR's can be converted to the small hole but I guess the gun would need to be sent out.
I have been checking subguns and autoweapons but haven't found any other places to look.  If anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate it.

Thanks

There's a few listed on the NFA board of the Equipment Exchange here, worth looking at.

This is a good site also. If you are not sure if the RR is a large or small hole just ask the seller. Most are small though. I think M60JOE can convert the large hole to a small hole if neccesary. He is a member of this forum. Hope this helps.

I'm looking at an early M16 that has a pushpin,  Large hole type has a screw, otherwise it's a small hole and would accept any regular upper?
