Those that have your DIAS, how did you get it? What the hell does it take to get one? I already check sturm/subguns/EE/uzitalk about a billion times a day. Ive missed 3 in just a few weeks. I dont even care if its an awesome deal. Will a WTB post really flush one out?

Thanks for any advice!

WTB ads do generate leads. And if you're not bargain-hunting, you should be able to snag one with a WTB in a coupla weeks. Some sellers watch the WTB ads for awhile before posting a sales ad because they do not want to deal with tire-kickers, pic collectors, etc.

That is precisely what spurred my post. Called as soon as I refreshed and saw it but calls were already being forwarded to voice mail.

Placed a WTB ad. Had the money and had 4 offers in less than 7 hours. YMMV

I have two (2) RDIAS, and possibly another on the way.  I may consider selling one.  Where in Texas are you?  I am in DFW.

Mostly just money. Post a WTB, Cash In Hand, $15000 and you will have one in a few minutes.

I paid $8000 for mine when they were going for $6500 a few years ago. Looking back, I wish I had bought more.

ETA: Another option that works well is to talk to a well-known dealer who moves a lot of NFA, and have them obtain one for you.

Personally, I prefer to pay 10-20% over what conventional wisdom says the market price is and have it, then spend months oe years looking for it only to see the price rise 10-20% over that time anyway.

Well, I guess thats the best adivce of any. Ive contacted a few dealers but so far none have any in stock or any leads. I'll get around to posting a WTB in a bit after I get tired of looking.

I am also in the DFW area closer to the D. I saw your WTS on EE but I dont have enough money for both a RR and DIAS unfortunately. Consider your options and I'll keep looking for a bit. If that doesn't work out maybe we can come to an agreement.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. Just got a little anxious..you know how it is

The ad talks about this sear and the SP1 associated with it being the host but also states they can be separated.  I have never understood how the host issues impacts on the sear and its use--some seem to say it has to be used in the host and others seem to disagree.

Prior to Nov. 1, 1981, when BATF ruled DIAS were machine guns in and of themselves, many AR15 owners filed a Form 1 listing the serial number of the host AR, paid the $200 tax, and when the approved Form 1 arrived, instead of drilling the receiver they just swapped the fire-control system and dropped in an unserialed DIAS. With the Form 1 reflecting the receiver only, and the DIAS having no number of its own, the combination is "married" in the eyes of BATF and a divorce is not possible. (In fact, a recent letter indicates that BATF today considers this situation "an improperly registered MG" and we may not have heard the rest of this story.)

If instead of the above approach, the individual got a VibraPen, wrote a serial number on the DIAS, then filed a Form 1 for the DIAS itself with that number, and in additional info typed "Installed in Colt SN SP12345," today the two can be separated by simply notifying BATF in writing.

Today, we know there is no legal requirement to notify BATF of the SN of the host receiver (though if you ask them, they will request the number for the NFA Registry).

FWIW, in the days before the Internet, knowledge about NFA and about correct BATF procedures was very hard to come by. Working in that knowledge vacuum, a lot of NFA owners made simple paperwork or procedural  mistakes that today prove costly.

Good info! Thanks tony. Looks like Im first in line for it! (Thanks eyegun for the heads up!)
So, as long as the sear has a serial and that serial is on the Form then Im in the clear? Even if the host weapon serial is also on the form? What sort of letter to the BATF is required? I dont suppose there is a form for that?
Thanks for all the help guys!!

I read the ad in the link and it appears it is OK, it is DIAS MFG by B. Kettenburg and is a standalone MG. Do not worry about letters to the BATF. When the Form 3 clears and the DIAS and SP1 gets to Texas, just leave Form 4 4h blank when you fill it out.

ETA:

If it were me, I would take the sear for $11K and let him keep the SP1. I would want to put the sear in a A2 style gun with standard pivot pin parts. Of course, I would also mark my lower to reflect its status:

YMMV

Thanks renegade. Yes, I have asked for just the sear but will buy both if he insists. Im sure plenty of others would be happy to buy both..

Anyway, the main reason I want the DIAS over RR is because of mgi's modular receiver but I havent exactly decided on a host. I dont care much about the S-S-A markings- maybe as I become more "sophisticated" in my NFA stuff. Im happy enough to have full auto fire for the time being.

RenegadeX,

May I ask how you came by that Safe/Semi/Auto marked Bushmaster lower?

Thanks,

Mike Klos of American Manufacturing (Warrior, Triple XXX Silencer), did it a couple of years ago. I do not think he is taking new work at this time. Steve at Tom Sawyer can do it, or you can buy one ready to go from Superior Arms.

Thanks medic. If youre referring to the one from a "John Burgi", then thats mine On a slightly unrelated note, is it true that for a sear (dias,LL,etc) filling out the 4473 is not necessary since it is not considered a title 1 gun? Obviously the AR15 will require it.

You still need to fill out the ATF 4473, but no NICS check is required for NFA items.
