Do you feel like they are on par with the S&W guns?

The MK series guns seem to in general have more problems that the S&W guns based off all the posts and conversations I have had over the years. Conversely, I don't really recall anybody reporting significant issues or having bad things to say about the actual Smith made guns from a reliability perspective.
That said many of the MK series guns have been fixed over the years, now run very well, and do represent a decent savings over the Smith guns.
For me when I bought my Smith 76 the monetary premium was worth it to get a gun that had a better reliability/quality reputation. For other folks they may have a better place to spend that $3 to $5K difference between a Smith and a MK.
My only advice if buying a MK series is to make sure that it runs well and also runs with multiple different magazines. If you get one that is a problem child MK you may eat up a bunch of your initial purchase saving sending it off to be fixed.
