So I'm submitting another F1 for a Ithaca 37 I just bought from a member here. This firearm predates the serial number being required on the receiver., and is found on the barrel. I'm just sanity checking if this will be ok or if I will be required to re-engrave the serial onto the receiver. Just something I hadn't thought about, and wanted to run it by some more experienced NFA stamp collectors.

Submitting the form sometime next week, but probably not starting on the project until next year. Waiting to wrap up a couple of other projects. Gun in question....

Did you check the front of the receiver?  Some older Ithacas have it there and it's easy to overlook.

Turn the gun upside down and look to see if there is a s/n on the bottom of the receiver  on the front ring right in front of the mag tube.

I take that back, I am an idiot and it was there. I was in a hurry getting out of the house to head out of town, but checked it again once we got stopped. Thanks for the help.

Yeah, it's a strange place to put it and I fell into the same trap.  Glad you found it.

It doesn't look that old.

Mine (the one dad bought me when I was in the 5th grade) has the raybar front sight.  Oh, 1968 but the gun was used as he bought it from a friend of his.  The older guns have a bead front sight but without going to look at one of my older ones I don't remember if its gold or silver.

Also, on the older ones (older than the one dad bought me) the magazine tube cap has a small pin that pulls out to provide more leverage when turning the cap.  The newer ones (mid 60" at least) no longer had that pin in the cap.

According to the Ithaca serial list it was made in 56.
