Anyone have any experience with a FAL machinegun.  Is it controllable?  Any other thoughts?  I love the platform itself just wondering if it is worth it.

From what I've seen it's as controllable as a Full Auto M14 ... which means "not very"

I shot a shorty FAL (new build by a SOT) and a transferable M14 on the same day.  The FAL was slightly easier to control due primarily, IMO, to ergonomics, but neither was something that was easy to hold on target.

As much as I like the concept of full-power battle rifles with happy switches, I think I am going to stick to subguns, and perhaps a M16 if I can ever afford one.  Between ammunition costs and controlability, I don't see full-auto 7.62mm rifles as worth it.

I've shot full auto FAL's, M14's, G3's etc etc.

FAL=G3 > M14 in controllability.

The FAL was a presample L2a1 it doubled my pulse rate.

Well, I tend to disagree with some of you!
I've got an FN/FAL with a run fast switch and it is totaly controllable.  I can consistantly put 4 rds in the chest of a silouette at 150 yds.  For some reason I regularily get a flyer on the 5th rd. Thus I rarely shoot more than 3 or 4 rd bursts.  I like to take a target line of 5 targets and put 2 rds in each as quick as I can change targets.  My rifle has a very good trigger so I can easily shoot 2, 3 or 4 rd bursts without any problem.
I also have an M14.  It is a worthless POS on FA!  One rd on target and the rest over the left shoulder - If I'm aiming for the heart area.  For that reason I almost never shoot it!  If I want to shoot the M14 on semi I have a Garand to shoot instead.

Is you'res a heavy-barrel (HB) FAL? I hear that they are pretty nice in F/A.

I had a Beretta BM-59 and it was also very controllable.

Any of these guns mentioned are easily controllable in full/burst when on a bipod in prone.  If you mean shooting standing up or kneeling, then only the G3 and FAL gets my vote.  The M14 in pistol grip form is more controllable then in stock form.

I've had similar experiences. A good low stance helps a ton.

you could have it built into one of the DSA types of the FAL, short and very controllable with some practice.

the type of device screwed onto the end of the barrel has a lot to with recoil and being able to stay on target.

No, my FN/FAL is a standard bbl.
I do almost all of my shooting standing off hand, occasionaly off my elbows on a shooting bench and rarely prone.  Have never thought to try setting.
I'd put a photo up, but have never found a way to do so on this board.
Oh and to the OP - The FN/FAL is NOT an MG!  It is a select fire RIFLE!

the osw platform that ds arms uses is very controllable and the rate of fire is quite high

i shot one as a post sample and it was very easy to shoot. it ran all day and had no issues.
