I have recently purchased a transferable SAR48 (IZZY) and I am currently deciding what optic I would like to use for the rifle. Initially I thought a red dot/holographic sight would be Ideal, but this seems like it would be suited for smaller caliber's with  closer ranges in mind (plus my eyesight isn't the best).  As of right now I am looking seriously into elcan specterdr's, acogs or other 1-4 optic choices due to the increased range opportunity (which I feel better about given the distance the 7.62x51 has). Does anyone have any experience shooting through a magnified optic (specifically elcans) ? Is it a viable option in bursts? I have spoken to some belt fed owners who say it isn't a problem, but I wonder how different it will be on a gun that weighs less than a standard belt fed.

What are your thoughts on the various optic choices in regards to full auto usability?

I'd go with something with a big dot and low magnification, if any.  Recoil impulse makes it difficult to keep sight of your reticle.

I've got a elcan, they are nice. Either that or a trijicon 6x like the TA648. Their field of view is amazing.

TO me, the EOTech 65 MOA circle / 1 MOA dot  seems ideal. Its not like the function of this tool is as a long-range precision weapon.

Eotech is my choice of dot.

I got 4 Eotechs, and 1 Bushnell Holosight. I love them all.

But you know what, I REALLY wanna try some Primary Arms gear...I've NEVER heard one thing bad about them!

My next build will be sporting some PA for sure...Prolly gonna put an Aimpoint and magnifier clone on a 300BLK.

I have a PA micro on an Ultimak on my AC556. The rail gets pretty hot pretty quick and I've not had any issues with the red dot in a couple thousand rounds.

Ad263210,

You now own the weapon I've always dreamed of owning!

Congrats!

I always thought that if I could manage to buy my own full auto Izzy HB,
I would mount the 6x ACOG.

My son has used the 6x ACOG out to 500 yds and says it's amazing.

The Elcan Specter DR 1-4 would be a good choice too I'd think.

I've looked at a TA11 ACOG 3.5x as a possible optic for my own FAL
and I liked that real well. Looked through one at the shop and was really impressed.
So you may consider that one as well.

I'd guess that the ACOGs will hold up to the beating of a select fire FAL a little better
than the other choices out there.

Please post a pic of your new treasure!!

Cheers,
