Are these registered as SBSs or AOWs?

The rifle would have to be an SBR also. No, the host rifle would not need to be an SBR. Why do you think it would? Because the rifle would then have a barrel attached to it that is less than 16" inches in length. You can pul the rifle's trigger all day long, and the Knight will not fire. All that will happen is the rifle itself will fire. It is a separate firearm attached to the host gun, which has its own separate barrel. Y'all want to SBR the host gun, go for it. But it is not required by law. |

No, the rifle would have a shotgun attached to it and the shotgun would have a barrel under 18" and therefore it is only the shotgun that needs to be registered as an SBS. Using your logic, I would have to register my car as an SBC (short barreled car) whever I have my SBS attached to the rack I have in the trunk. Quoted:
That's fine, you can be the ATF's bitch if they decide that you're wrong. Don't even know what to say about that comment, since you are the only one in the entire NFA community that thinks you are right. |

You do realize these guys have been studying and following the law, while erring on the side of caution for decades, right? You do realize you should watch your tone, right? |
| I don't intend to derail us too badly, but I'd love to get one of these sometime in the next couple years. But the sticker shock is amazing. What drives the cost up so high? The base 870 is is like 400 tops? All it's not exactly an elegant package all assembled. |

Supply and Demand. The demand for the Masterkey is very low so the cost to supply is way high. The manufacturer has to make a buck somehow, especially if you carry any kind of inventory for a long time because not many are sold. Or maybe it is just because they can. Not many companies make them and if you really want it they figure you are going to pay "their" price.
