Does a Pre Ban AR that was set up from the factory as a SBR still have to get ATF ok to own. Thanks for the help.

yes
for you to own it you need to pay $200 tax and it needs to be transferred from a class 3 dealer. Pre-ban and post-ban are terms not used in reference to SBRs.

There is no such animal, that would be law enforcement/military weapon, or someone telling you that it is "pre ban. If it is NFA registered weapon you would have to transfer it to yourself via form 4 with the $200 stamp.

Thanks, that is the way i understood it. A friend has an issue and thought it would be OK because of being a pre ban. I told them it didn't matter because pre ban had nothing to do with it.

If it was removed from the registry and then put into a non SBR onfiguration than it would be fine to own without a stamp. Don't know if this is what you mean or not.
