| I have two SBRs on order. I have seen , somewhere, that in order to be legal one must engrave the name of the owner on the lower. I am registering mine to a trust. Can someone confirm this to me and if possible cite me to a source. Also can you recommend someone to do the engraving if that is the case. I remember the name Anvil but their website is down or out. First, read up on the subject in the General Class 3 forum.
Second, are the guns you have on order already SBRs? In other words, are you buying guns with short barrels through a Class 3 dealer? If so then you don't need to engrave anything. The "maker" of an SBR must engrave name and locale on the firearm, and the "maker" is the one that submits the ATF Form 1. If you're waiting for SBRs that are already registered, then you will have signed a Form 4 to transfer them to you. Big difference. Basically, if you're already going through a dealer, you don't need to do anything but wait. Otherwise, if YOU are registering fresh guns as SBRs (and filing the Forms 1), then you engrave "Bob's Cool Trust, Anywhere NE" (with the full name of the trust and the city and state the trust is established in). This need not be very tall engraving; there are no specific standards for height and depth of any engraving but the serial number, and you can use the original maker's serial number so that's no biggie. I had my information engraved at 1/8" and it looks good-and hardly noticeable if you aren't looking for it. Hope that helps... |

They can only resell those made by a C2. If you are buying from a C2 or C3, then the SBR will have already been engraved as stated above. |
